HE UNDERSTANDS HER GRIEVANCES. just because levi unquestioningly follows erwin’s command doesn’t mean that he can’t think for himself, that he doesn’t have his own OPINIONS. he huffs a shock of black hair away from his eyes before canting his head in her direction, stormy gaze guarded as usual.
“ erwin takes that into account when he makes his judgments, ” the captain replies coolly. “ you think he doesn’t have the heart to think about that? how it makes other people feel? i know you’ve got a decent stake in what’s going on out there, but you’ve gotta put your trust in the people in charge to make the decision that’s best. ”
ugh. the words taste like SHIT coming out of his mouth, & levi has to turn away sharply as he grits his teeth. how polished of you, o’ captain. god, since when has he become such a military wretch? when did he find himself standing in the same boot tracks that erwin had once occupied on the day that levi’s entire life had been ripped away from him?
if he keeps looking at her, levi’s afraid that he’ll see HIMSELF.
“ … it’s shitty, i know. but we won’t let you down. someone has to keep you shits safe & in line. ”
For someone who wanted to enjoy their second chance at life to the fullest, Ymir has made some odd choices. She could’ve spent the remaining decade or so of her life running about the inner city, dashing from wall to wall, or even roaming the underground. Yet here she is, all because she wanted to know the secrets about the golden haired girl. But now it’s a bit more than her curiosity that has kept her firmly rooted among the Survery Corp, now there was emotions she hadn’t felt before forcing her to stay.
Might as well make her time protecting the walls interesting.
❝ And what should happen when we get out of line Captain? Are we brought back to the deepest ring of the wall and forced to stand before the king? ❞ False royalty, much like herself, put on a pedestal as a sign of hope for the people. ❝ Are we expected to always blindly follow orders even if something deep down tells us those orders are wrong? We travel outside these walls for what? For the townsfolk to say we’re wasting our time and taxpayers money to go on adventures that only end in misery? ❞
She ponders how others will feel when it’s her body being dragged back to town wrapped up in dirty sheets on the back of a wagon, or will her body rot in the forests because it was too dangerous for others to turn back for her remains? Only time will tell.
