Colloquialism is similar to dialects but refers to certain slangs used by an area in informal writing, they keep a writing casual and reference something that maybe only one area may call something. For example your grandparents might call a computer a “doo-hickey” or if you can’t think of the word for something you may reference it as a “Thing-a-mah-bob”
Dialects refer to the way someone talks that form from the environment they were raised in. You can often associate where someone is from based on the way they pronounce certain words or the way they structure their sentences.Â
