Hi! Im talking on episode 16 of the 1-800-DID-I-ASK podcast! It was so lovely talking to Hannah and Rachel. I talk about my work, one direction, kim and kanye and drake ! it was very fun ~ the link is on the pic!
I wanted to send a thank you letter to my grandmother thanking her for giving me birthday money which i used to buy this really cool american cheerleader jacket from peckham vintage fair!!! so i got rosa to take it on my instax so i could post it straight away and realised after the giant i love dick posterĀ
last week was really fun, we got briefed on the colour project, a very loose basically a ~do whatever you want and link it to colour in someway~ project, iām finding it quite hard, itās quite a long project of two and a half weeks and I normally work with a concept and think about colour at some point afterwards. Trying to work it out the other way is interesting but iām spending a lot of time procrastinating, and feeling like iām constantly hitting a wall? The project started with a silk dying workshop and a colour walk to start thinking about colour. Walking aimlessly through hyde park on a crisp morning was wonderful, focusing on the tiny specks of colour within a plant, the variations of autumnal leaves and how people around me interact with colour, by wearing it / curating it on their bodies. I picked a deep purple and it was especially interesting to see how people wore it with other colours, it was definitely an exercise in looking and really focusing on the landscape. Iāve been obsessed with colour perception and the idea that everyone sees colour differently, thinking about my friends from home who have a colour deficiency to browns / reds / greens and how theyād ask me to pass them a certain colour because they wanted to use it within their work. Without actually knowing what the colour looked like or what it was against the other colours they chose.
I also got to go with Viv, Hannah and Chris to the Opius exhibition at the V&A and it was endlessly inspiring and really interesting. This is an amazing cope from the exhibition.

The first picture is of my lovely new space at the royal college! i quickly took this picture so I wouldnāt forget but iāve just dumped all my stuff on my desk pre-crit for my summer project. i have an amazing view of the Albert Hall and as our studio is on the 7th floor theres a vast London skyline.
The second is my knitted cushion, part of my summer project calledĀ āidentityā. I have been looking at consumer culture a lot and iām really interested in taste. When I was researching 40 hour work weeks, i remember reading something about how its structured to make people spend more money, being detrimental to mental health- Ā but I still havenāt found that specific post. It did however lead me to researching Henry Ford who basically coined the 40 hour work week in the 1920s, he changed the long 10-16 hr days to 8 hr days, stating thatĀ āevery man needs more than one day a week for rest and relaxation ... The ford company always has sought to promote [an] ideal home life for itās employeesā. Although this seems like it was driven by compassion for his employees and their families it was actually the start of consumer culture as we know it, with Ford stating thatĀ āleisure is an indispensable ingredient in a growing Ā consumer market because working people need to have enough free time to find uses for consumable products including automobilesā. so i came up with the phrase + knitted it into a cushion ~ i thought it was funny that it could be turned into a product that could be bought and consumed. later telling my pals that my work goal is to troll kirsty allsop into buying these products.Ā
a light jacket with a warm jumper, i felt very snug on the tube yesterday, the slight chill- merely a drop in degrees, i wouldnāt exactly say it was cold but the wind was strong and had knocked every estate agent sign over on our street. I feel the cold easily but was very happy to finally get to wear a jumper, even though I felt slightly regretful that I stayed in avoiding the sun over the last few weeks. It feels like its officially autumn! which is my favourite month, minus the short dark days, i love the crisp air and getting to wear my coat + turtlenecks again. weāve been working a lot recently and rosa and I have been listening to podcasts featuring Louis Theroux and watching bake off.
Iāve been thinking a lot about this tweet by Jen RichardsĀ ā I rarely meet men in real life as extraordinary as ones on film, and rarely see women on film as extraordinary as ones I know in real lifeā. I feel that no truer words have been spoken, It is frustrating that the women that I see on television are most often written by men, and all feel very familiar. Ā I overheard a conversation at work a few weeks ago where a man was telling the head of the company, also a man that he is finding it hard writing a female character for childrens tv show recently commissioned because he keeps making her seem like a bitch. I felt disappointed watching a recording of an event at comicon back in 2013 where a member of the audience asked Gillian Anderson- āhow much of long lasting impact do you think having a strong female character on a sci fi show has influenced the genreā, the conversation passed to Chris Carter the writer of Scully and he states the key aspects of her personality before saying how she is really just his fantasy woman?? Ā to limit her to just being a product of his own fantasy is so demeaning. I love the show but I am so desperate for more women to write shows about women, (AND that arenāt Lena Dunham).Ā
I just finished watching the recent BBC documentary called Absolutely Fashion: Inside British Vogue, directed by Richard Macer. Hannah had told me earlier in the week about it but warned me about Macers directing and I was interested to see how it was done- I relished in the fact that it mostly made him look like a bad director, quite out of place - iād seen graduate documentaries done by people with less experience but heaps more talent. Reinforced by the fact that Alexandra ShulmanĀ the editor and chief of British Vogue, set up an entire fake senario where she showed him a graphic cover of the 100th edition that didnāt even exist because she didnāt trust him enough with the knowledge that Kate Middleton was really on the cover, it did give a sense of mystery to find out what the event was but I was annoyed he would assumed she would leave the business. He bought up buying the last copy of fhm magazine which had no relevance in comparison to vogue??? It was interesting seeing the inside of vogue but overall the male director ruined it ! bleh I was uplifted watching kim kardashianĀ
lil clay models for my latest project!
accidentally deleted this lil gifs from my blog !!
theres just under two weeks until the first day at the royal college, iām so nervous! iāve had two stress dreams! back to frantically doing my project into the early hours. this is a quick post about how iām having a revamp of my blog and will be posting research + work in progress + general diary rambles. I want to do some podcasts but iām still unsure what I have to contribute and really i want to make up some great jingles.
I havenāt deleted my blog in the 7 years that iāve had it so as you can imagine how itās equally nostalgic and dreadfully embarrassing. Iāve made other blogs over the years in a bid to be more professional but iām sticking with this, for now. now to clearing out my archiveā¦.

i also did this snazzy poster for the reel good film club for their second birthday party which is super exciting, i miss getting to do more painting stuff so this was a treat
itās been a weird couple of months since graduating, the summer feels wasted on me and my pre-masters nerves. iāve been ill for the last week and flat bound starting my new summer project, kind of? relearning a lot of hand knitting techniques and experimenting with patterns and colours, itās a bit daunting as itās leading to a presentation infront of my new teachers and class and they put a lot of weight on the fact it should show my ambitions and passion? iām feeling quite flat from my BA and desperately trying to claw inspiration back. If you are feeling this way too a good place to start (i found) was getting a blank piece of paper and dividing it into 4, inspirational artists, places, topics and other (other is mostly for notes/colours). Its good to get everything together in one place that isnāt my muddled brain, I guess at the moment iām interested in, knock offs/ bootleg, obsession/fandom and global warming. Iāve been reading This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein which is heavily influencing a lot of my thoughts whilst also filling me with dread and anxiety. Ā I am working on a really badly knitted piece (see image) about how henry ford bought in the 5 day 40 hour work week which scrapped that 16hr work days, paying his workers the same wage but allowing them more time off to, ~CONSUME~ basically people just spent more and consumer culture was born. But I also watched this interesting video about mental health and politics and it really resonated with me,
Last week I finished watching x-files after three years, and I can confidently say that it stays strong until the end even through the ten season climb seemed overwhelming at first. We finished watching stranger things a couple of days ago too which sat perfectly with my post x-files blues, itās really good. and the frank ocean album! how has 2016 been so awful but given us so many incredible cultural treats that we truly donāt deserve. iām home now, back in Norwich basking in sunshine and currently laying in bed next to billy <3
there was something awfully sobre about the atmosphere at glastonbury on friday morning. I woke up frantically searching for my phone amongst my sleeping bag and roll mat and refreshed the live results page i was viewing the night before. only two constituancies had reported their results when I fell asleep and all the coverage online was saying remain would win. I lay there quietly sobbing hearing the conversations of other people in tents around me who were also waking up and also hearing the news, it was like a bad dream? almost incomprehensible?
Things I am annoyed about (I tried writing this not in bullet points but whatever) - the tory party have used immagrants as a scape goat their entire time in power, cuts to the nhs? immagrants! cuts to schools? immagrants! annoyed there are no jobs? immagrants! they have used it time again and it has been perpetuated by the right wing media which have fed this hatred. Now that the EU ref was voted with a majority leave it has empowered racists and xenophobes to assult people in public and itās disgusting, it makes me feel so sick that people feel unsafe in their homes and communities. With the leave campaign not commenting on this it makes it seem like they condone it. My neighbour commented on my post on facebook withĀ āAt least we have OUR country backā ? back from who? - Although the feeling was of loss and anger, Glastonbury was the best place I could of been during this time. I attended talks on the EU at Leftfield and got to hear Josie Long and Robin Ince express their anger on the topic. I felt a sense of unity and strength. Clive Lewis talking about how we need to have conversations with people about this especially people who voted leave, and how politics have to be about love and compassion really resonated with me. It is easy to assume that all of the people who voted leave are racists but a lot of people only read the paper and watch tv and donāt actively engage with politics and its important to have these discussions. The daily mail posted an actual informative post on the EU ref after the count and many people wish they hadnāt of voted leave because they were ill informed? The leave campaign used the EU as a scape goat for why the NHS is underfunded, leading up to the election my next door neighbour (the same one) liked a photo on facebook that said, āstop junior doctors protesting, vote leave and the Ā£350 mil we give to the EU every week will go to the NHSā, I thought it was obvious that in a state of austerity with the tory party that a promise like that would never happen, but they used the EU as the source of all our problems passing the blame once more. Farage went back on the statement an hour after the results were in and then the campaignĀ stated āNobody said that they'd spend the Ā£350million a week on the NHSāĀ with buses plastered with the statement. The leave campaign has no plan on what to do next. - Boris Johnson, head of the leave campaign explains what he wants for the UK post leaving the EU, which is affectively Ā an EU membership - these were put through the homes of people in Huntington
And Iām scared:
Iām scared about the environment, the funding to universities and colleges, local communities losing their funding, workers rights, rights for lgbt+, maternity leave, travelling freely, increase of racist and xenophobic attacks, more hatred, the comments on Sadiq Khans facebook post break my heart, at the EU talk at glastonbury a woman said she feels unwelcome in the place she calls her home :-( , leading members of UKIP are joining the tory party, goodbye public services, welfare, pensions !!!!!Ā
