Cinta's death is factually a Bury your Gays death. The reasons people are saying it isn't are made up nonsense. It was also written in the worst most offensive way possible.
Every character not in rogue one does not "need to die." That's not at all how that works.
If you don't understand those, you have no media literacy, no critical thinking skills, and shit basic thinking skills too.
This is happening within the context of a massive worldwide rollback of queer rights and America currently under the rule of a fascist dictator
anyways, I'll probably get banned for saying this but I think we should put Tony Gilroy in the exploding hammer car
A lot of people are going to say that the fate between Vel and Cinta was necessary and obvious given that neither of these characters show up in rogue one and Andor is a gritty show.
Those people should know that Andor, despite being a precursor to Rogue one, is NOT the rogue one prequel show. The show is not about setting up for rogue one or how rogue one came to be, it's a show about the rebellion, and how it came to be. It's a show about the empire's oppression and how it infiltrates every aspect of life until it suffocates people. Neither Vel nor Cinta needed to die in order for Andor to be canon compliant, just because neither of them appear in Rogue One or in any current project set in that era of the star wars timeline.
Those people should know that just because Andor is a dark show, that doesn't mean they had to kill off a queer woman of color for the sake of telling a dramatic story. So many times in these stories do we see an overwhelming amount of personal losses for the rebels- we rarely see any personal wins. Jyn Erso famously said that "Rebellions are built on hope" and what could possibly be more hopeful than the idea that you and your dearest can fight for the rebellion, win that fight, and make it out alive together?
Those people know that queer representation is so very limited and so very hard to have. Especially in the political climate we find ourselves in today. Not only is having representation damn near impossible these days but it's also exceedingly common for stories to kill off their queer representation with the trope of "burying your gays." Killing off either Vel or Cinta, while it could make sense for the story of Andor, is what everyone expects because so many projects have taken their queer characters, shown how they have a complex and sad romance, and then soon after eradicate them from the story via death. Vel and Cinta both deserved to live and they both deserved to be together, for the sake of representation and also to push the positive message that even though the oppressors might take everything from you, even if you end up losing yourself in your fight for freedom, you still have love. You still have things that make you human and you still have things that are worth fighting for, worth hoping for.
also cinta's death was not bury the gays.
that's a specific trope in which gay characters are not given the same weight as others and often they are the only ones who die. if it's specifically the gay character who dies and the plot moves on immediately, that's bury the gays. cinta's death was not that.
cinta died in a mission cassian refused to get involved with because they were too disorganised too reckless too impatient. she dies because Vel had made it very very clear that no-one was to carry a blaster, and that guy had one anyway, he disobeyed those orders. she dies because they were unorganised, she died because that guy couldn't follow orders, she died because the ghorman front is reckless, she died because that guy got impatient and didn't bother to try to explain.
the show sits with her death, we are given time to think about it, to see the impact it has on Vel and on the guy and on the rest of the group.
I do have issues with how little we knew Cinta before she died, how little of her character we know compared to Vel, but that still doesn't make it a bury the gays, especially in a show where we know almost every character except the 4 we see in rogue 1 is going to die
Okay wait I keep seeing this specific bizarre line of reasoning, claiming that Cinta isn't bury your gays because that is specifically defined as when gay characters' deaths are treated as less important than straight character deaths. THAT IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF BURY YOUR GAYS. It is simply about how extremely common historically throughout media it has been for gay characters to be killed off, like damsels in distress it isn't about specific examples it is about the overall trend, and Cinta is absolutely part of that.
But the thing I'm here to say is that I'm seeing enough people separately making the same specific mistake, that I think there's a decent chance it's not a mistake, that homophobes are purposely planting this idea about the definition so they can deny the homophobia of killing Cinta. Possibly using sock puppet accounts claiming to belong to queer people to do so. (not saying the specific people in this post or other posts I've reblogged are necessarily sock puppets, they may just be the useful idiots)
You're probably thinking I sound crazy or paranoid to assume that, and I know it does seem unlikely. But like 10 fucking years ago, back around 2015 literally a fucking decade ago, when I started seeing people online begin pushing "sex and gender are not the same things," my reaction back then was feeling like that was a bad message, that it was just going to be used as an excuse to call trans women male, and yes, feeling like it even could be a terf op pushed by sock puppets. But I dismissed the thought because "surely that was crazy," and then fast forward to now YEARS of progress on trans rights and legal status have been undone instantly because all the language and ideas it was built on was about gender and gender identity, and they were able to just go "actually we're changing it so that sex not gender is the thing that's important now." So I'm not dismissing those thoughts anymore

I literally want to kill every single person defending Cinta's death or claiming it's not bury your gays (wtf??? it absolutely is you dumbass motherfuckers) using the Gorst recording
Guys. Killing Cinta was not an example of bury your gays. That trope takes place when a gay character's death is metatextually treated as less important than a het character's. The unimportance of deaths in the pursuit of the rebellion is literally a central theme in this show!!! Cinta is the EIGHTH named rebel to die in this show!!! Not to mention Kreegr's men, or even the Narkina escapees. Every single one of these characters will die an uncelebrated yet ultimately important death in the pursuit of freedom!! Yes, killing a character after they've had a chance to be openly gay is a trope but they're treating it no differently than Brasso's death last arc. He too found love, and it didn't save him. The camera doesn't even link her death to vel in any way- her death is another symbolic death representing the danger of disorganization, infighting, naivety, not following orders, etc. Yes I wish some gay characters would get to survive onscreen and even live a happy life. But you're looking for it in the wrong show.
This person is a complete idiot, they don't understand what bury your gays is, Cinta is absolutely an example, they and all the people in the notes agreeing or liking the post don't know what the fuck they're talking about and they should shut the hell up about things they don't understand

Please help a disabled trans woman pay rent and keep from becoming homeless
Hi, my name is Leelah, and I'm a disabled woman struggling to pay rent. All to⦠Leelah L needs your support for Help a disabled woman pay re
I am disabled and have severe health issues so I have not been able to work. Please if you can spare any amount please help me to pay my rent, if I cannot do so this month I am going to be evicted.
I have been homeless in the past and was eventually able to get a place to live, but back then I was physically healthy and had a job. If I become homeless again now, I honestly don't know if I will be able to survive it this time
Thank you so much to anyone who is able to help by donating any amount or by reblogging/sharing
I was unable to make the full rent payment, and the landlord has told me if I do not pay the full amount this week they will begin evicting. Because I have had some trouble in the past as well with rent, if they evict they will be able to use an expedited process. I have tried sharing this on all the social media I have with no luck. Please if anyone sees this please if you can give any amount to help so I won't become homeless
Hi, I hope you are doing wellπΉ
Can you help by sharing my story, reblog, and donating if you can, to keep hope alive for me, I'm type 1 diabetes. I am calling on your humanity and kindness to help me raise $340.
This amount will enable the approval of an insulin pump that will help me better control my diabetes. Although I am happy that I have been approved the hardest part is the money to pay for the pump and equipment, please your contribution is important. Be blessed β₯οΈ
