@blackwiidows asked: "❛ They wish now not for the good of the realm, but for the petty satisfaction of vengeance. ❜ for Caden ♡"
From: House of the Dragon Season Two Starter
He snickered for just a second or two as he heard the words fall from her mouth. For someone who seemingly had sould their sould away to Velvette, she had a good idea of the lay of the land. Caden did understand that as well, to be honest. He had sold his own soul away, but that was... likely a different scenario than what Circe had done with her contract. There were seemingly a lot of differences between what Caden had done and what other people had done, but that was beside the point.
But, in a way, maybe it was her way of saying this was about the actual Overlords who, seemingly, had control over a lot of Hell at large rather than just the Sins themselves. Sure, the Sins were the ones who held the ultimate power at the end of the day, but at the same time... it seemed that the Overlords were the ones who caused a lot more chaos than even the Sins did sometimes. But that might have been because it seemed there was not as much... oversight for the Overlords. Or it was just that the Sins didn't care.
At the end of the day, a lot of them were stuck in a cycle... a cycle that Caden himself would never end.
But Caden knew, a lot more than some other people, that the Overlords who seemed to have their hands on every aspect of Hell really did just want some vengeance at the end of the day. Whether it was because someone lower down the line had wronged them in the past, or they themselves had been wronged by another Overlord at some point, Caden didn't fully know. What he did know... was that Overlords as a whole did not care for what happened to those who sold their souls away.
❝Overlords are the typa' people who never really cared about those who lived in Hell to begin with. There was always somehow or someway that they could get ahead of the competition, and whatever that way was, they would find it and exploit it,❞ he huffed with a sigh, ❝If they weren't doing a lot of what they did for petty vengeance, I'd be surprised, I really would.❞
Again, it didn't seem like anyone who had ever sold their souls had a way out of it, to be frank. Sure, Caden had found a way out of the compound that he had been stuck in, out of the way of life that he had been sucked into by Calderon, but... it wasn't like he had gotten his soul back or anything.
Even now, a few years after his escape, he was still without it. Not that it mattered, he wouldn't be able to do much with it anyway, it felt like.
❝Honestly just kinda' seems we're all stuck just tryin' to catch up with whatever crazy act someone pulled this time,❞ he remarked and glanced her way, ❝I don't think there would be very many who would want to try and make Hell "better", per se, but it does feel every day that some Overlord out there is wantin' to make it worse...❞
