he’s had his eyes on her all night… with a little jeering from his friends, of course. quentin’s never been afraid to go up and approach anyone, but there’s some people he’s learned to not bother. girls sitting alone in a booth at a bar weren’t worth his time — at least, not for what he normally wants out of them. he’s been dared encouraged to go talk to the blonde though, and quentin finds himself sitting across from her within moments. “ yeah, hi. what are you writing about? isn’t it kind of hard to focus with all of these people around you having fun and getting drunk? don’t you wanna join? ”

                  blair  tilts  her  head  at  him  ,   eyes  shifting  around  the  bar  due  to  the  fact  that  she  just  now  realizes  just  how  odd  she  must  look  .    ❛    uh  ,   nothing  special  ,   just  some  work  that  i  wanted  to  get  done  ,    ❜    she  replies  .   it’s  not  quite  the  truth  ,   but  also  not  a  lie  ;   however  ,   blair’s  not  in  the  business  of  revealing  her  secrets  to  strangers  .   she  laughs  then  ,    ❛    i  didn’t  ,   but  now  that  you’ve  mentioned  it  ,   i  don’t  think  i  could  go  back  to  focusing  .    ❜    she  shrugs  her  shoulders  ,   intoxication  is  something  that  blair’s  only  experienced  a  handful  of  times  .    ❛    i  don’t  know  about  that  .   not  to  make  myself  seem  even  weirder  ,   but  i’m  not  exactly  —  the  drinking  kind  .    ❜

                ben can do little else but nod at that,      take her word for it     —-     there’s a want in him to dig,      to push for a little bit more,      but he bites down on it,    abates it,     at least for the time being.     “     my sisters   …   uh,    usually spread rumors about the guy’s dick being small,     “      is what he offers,      quietly,   but pervaded with an air of inane amusement.

                  tatum  can’t  help  but  to  giggle  at  that  ,   an  eyebrow  raising  at  the  suggestion  .    ❛    really  ?   you  think  that’d  teach  him  a  lesson  ?    ❜    her  head  tilts  as  though  she  contemplates  it  ,   but  tatum  knows  that  she  could  never  be  so  spiteful  —  even  if  it  was  deserved  .   regardless  ,   the  idea  is  enough  to  change  her  mood  ,   and  she  goes  so  far  as  to  offer  ben  a  smile  ,   a  genuine  one  .

          for as    poorly      as verbal communication goes between the two of them,      what gets conveyed through pure extended pauses and facial expressions is beyond him.       (      he’s especially impressed considering he can presently only see out of one eye.     )     he recognizes the annoyance in her gaze as a dismissal,     at least for now.     “     oh    —-     thank you.     real ego booster.      “      what a way to kick him while he’s down,     right.     “       like      —-      i’m not sure why i have to beg you to not let me get hospitalized.     “      a pause,     as he tucks his other palm underneath his chin to fix her with half a look.     “      i … feel like i shouldn’t have to.     “

                  silence  falls  between  them  then  ,   because  as  much  as  she  hates  to  admit  it  ,   he’s  right  .   guilt  seeps  into  her  features  ,   and  she  shifts  her  eyes  to  anything  other  than  him  .    ❛    i  guess  that’s  fair  ,    ❜    is  all  she  offers  him  ,   because  her  pride  refuses  anything  more  .   as  much  as  she  can’t  stand  ben  ,   she  also  doesn’t  know  what  she’d  do  if  something  were  to  actually  happen  to  him  —  and  so  for  what’s  probably  the  first  ,   and  last  time  ,   avery  actually  apologizes  ,    ❛    sorry  .    ❜

          “     you could be alone instead.     “      he’s not pushing for anything in particular.     not really.     “     obviously      that means     something.    “

                  the  only  thing  more  frustrating  than  ben  ?   ben  when  he’s  right  .    ❛    whatever  ,    ❜    she  concedes  the  point  ,   but  she  rolls  her  eyes  —  even  if  he’s  right  ,   she’ll  never  outright  admit  it  .
