but something that's kind of interesting here is that the demon has (some level of) access to the feelings/memories of the hosts, so it gains a ton of excellent information to torture dan with

we know so little about what meg really thinks in re-animator, but i think it would be fitting that, in a story where meg's feelings for dan could be mind-read, that information would be presented to dan by someone who hates his guts. feels right i fear....

Lore thing is that the demon can pretty easily bodyhop under normal circumstances. It's just been joyriding for a while, truly a take-what-i-want-because-i-can type.to When it's exorcised by Herbert in the church, it takes the easiest path, essentially. This wouldn't be Herb, because while he's not impossible to possess, his tattoos are intricate and permanent wards that are not easily fucked with. Dan was supposed to be the "bait" essentially, but it catches Meg while she's watching instead.

Interesting is that when it possesses Dan, it can't kill him and it can't leave. There's something different about Dan (I have a variety of ideas for what it is but I haven't decided yet) that keeps the demon from hopping again, which is what gives Dan and Herbert time to learn how to actually kill it... yeah..
