You hadn’t meant to overthink it, but lately it felt like something had changed.
You and James still texted, still saw each other during training, still acted normal—but it wasn’t the same. Conversations ended quicker. He was busier. You told yourself it was nothing, that schedules got hectic, that you were just being sensitive.
Bust still… you missed him. So you came up with an excuse. Asking for help was easy. Natural. Something no one would question.
You stood outside the studio, hand hovering near the door, already rehearsing what you’d say but before you could enter you heard laughter.
Through the slightly open door, you saw him standing close to another mentor, a woman you recognized but didn’t know well. They were talking easily, like they’d been there a while. He looked relaxed. Comfortable.
Your chest tightened in a way you didn’t expect. You just watched. Watched the way he smiled. Watched the way she leaned in slightly when she spoke. Watched how natural it looked. If anyone saw this they would have thought they were dating.
Upon this sight, your mood dropped before you could stop it.
A few seconds later, she stepped away, saying something you couldn’t hear, and walked toward the door. You quickly stepped aside, pretending you had just arrived. She passed you with a polite nod.
You didn’t return it, you didn’t want to. The moment she left, you walked in.
James turned at the sound, his expression lighting up instantly when he saw you.
“We’ve only stopped talking for a moment and you already replaced me?” you said, forcing a light tone, but the irritation slipped through anyway.
He blinked, caught off guard, then let out a small breath like he understood more than you said.
“Replaced you?” he repeated, softer now.
You shrugged, avoiding his eyes. “Just saying.”
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he walked over. Before you could react, his arms wrapped around you, pulling you into a warm, familiar hug.
It only made the tight feeling in your chest worse. You pushed against him, stepping out of his hold. “James.”
You turned your back to him, crossing your arms, pretending you weren’t affected. There was a brief pause before you felt him again—closer this time.
His arms slid around you from behind, gentle but firm, his chin resting lightly near your shoulder.
“You’re really jealous?” he murmured, a hint of amusement in his voice, but softer now, careful.
“I’m not,” you muttered, though it came out weaker than you wanted.
He hummed quietly, like he didn’t believe you. “It was work,” he said after a moment. “Nothing more.”
You didn’t respond and his grip tightened just slightly, grounding. “No one’s replacing you,” he added, voice low and steady. “No one could,” He assured pressing a kiss on your neck.
Something about the way he said it—so simple, so certain—made your shoulders relax before you could stop yourself.
“…You’ve been busy,” you said, quieter now.
“I know.” There was a pause. “I didn’t realize it felt like this.”
You turned around slowly in his arms, finally facing him.
He looked at you properly then, expression softer than before, a little apologetic.
“I missed you,” he admitted.
That was enough to make your annoyance melt faster than you wanted it to. “…I missed you too,” you said, almost reluctantly. A small smile appeared on his face.
Without warning, he leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to your cheek. Your breath caught, heat rising to your face immediately.
“James—” you started, but you didn’t move away.
He just smiled, like he liked seeing you flustered.
You hesitated for a second before speaking again, quieter now. “…We haven’t really spent time together in a while.”
“I know,” he said again, more serious this time. You looked at him, then away. “So… maybe we should go out?”
“Yeah,” he said. “Let’s do that.”
You glanced back at him, a small smile forming despite yourself. “Don’t cancel,” you added, half teasing, half serious.
He let out a quiet laugh. “I won’t.”
You hadn’t felt this excited in a while, which only made it more embarrassing the longer you stood in front of the mirror, adjusting something that didn’t need adjusting. You told yourself it was just a date—just James—but your hands kept smoothing over your outfit, your hair, your sleeves, like if you got everything right, the night would be too.
It had been so long since you’d had him to yourself without the weight of schedules, evaluations, and quiet distance sitting between you, and maybe that was why your chest felt so light, why you kept smiling at nothing. You even arrived early, pacing a little, checking your phone even though you knew he wouldn’t be late. James wasn’t careless like that. He said he’d come, so he would.
But then ten minutes passed. Then fifteen.
You told yourself it was fine. Something probably came up. He’d text.
By the time he finally appeared, breath slightly uneven like he’d rushed, your excitement had dulled into something quieter, something you tried to hide the second he smiled at you like nothing had changed.
“Sorry,” he said quickly, running a hand through his hair. “I got caught up.”
“It’s okay,” you replied just as quickly, the words automatic, rehearsed even, paired with a small smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes.
You walked together, sat across from each other, talked about training, about small things, about anything that didn’t touch the space you both seemed to be avoiding.
His phone buzzed once. Then again. He glanced at it the first time, apologized the second, and by the third, he was replying, his attention slipping away in pieces right in front of you.
You stirred your drink slowly, watching the way his focus shifted, the way his answers got shorter, distracted.
“You can take it,” you said lightly, even though your chest tightened with every second he wasn’t looking at you.
He shook his head. “No, it’s fine.”
“James,” you added, softer this time, “it’s okay. I get it.”
That seemed to settle it for him, because he nodded, already checking his phone again, already somewhere else.
The rest of the date blurred into something you couldn’t quite hold onto. You laughed when you were supposed to, nodded when it felt right, filled the silence when it stretched too long, but underneath it all was the quiet, sinking realization that nothing had actually changed. Not really.
You just wanted to spend some time with him and he wasnt even trying to pretend like he cared about you.
When you got back, he walked you part of the way like he always used to, his hand brushing yours once, twice, before finally holding it, but even that felt… different. Looser. Like something he was remembering to do rather than wanting to.
“I’ll make it up to you,” he said at the end, giving your hand a small squeeze.
You smiled again. “You don’t have to.”
He exhaled obviously noticing your change in mood, “y/n–“
You let go of his hand and looked at him forcing a smile. “We’re already here, I’ll go. Goodnight.”
You left before he could say anything leaving him frustrated, running a hand through his hair.
The next few days proved that he didn’t. If anything, he got busier.
You saw less of him, spoke less, and the little moments you used to have—quick glances, small touches, quiet conversations—started disappearing like they’d never existed in the first place. You tried not to let it get to you, tried to focus on training instead, on improving, on giving yourself something else to think about.
That was how you ended up spending more time with another trainee.
It wasn’t intentional at first. Just extra guidance. Extra practice. But it became easier, somehow. There was no tension, no unspoken expectations, no wondering where you stood. You laughed more. You relaxed more. You stopped checking your phone as often. And of course James noticed.
At first, it was small—his gaze lingering a second too long, his tone sharpening slightly during feedback, his corrections becoming stricter, colder.
“You can do better than that,” he said once, voice flat, eyes fixed on you in a way that made your chest tighten.
“I know,” you replied, matching his tone, even though it stung more than it should have.
Something about that snapped inside you, but you held it down, swallowing the frustration, turning away before it could show too clearly on your face.
Rumors started not long after.
You didn’t know where they began, only that they spread fast and quiet, slipping into conversations that stopped when you got too close, into looks that lingered a little too long. Favoritism. Special treatment. It didn’t matter that things had changed, that if anything, James was harder on you than anyone else now. People believed what they wanted.
And eventually, it reached higher up.
You weren’t there when it happened, but you felt the shift immediately after.
James became distant in a way that felt deliberate.
No more lingering looks. No more unnecessary conversations. No more softness.
Cold, clean, careful distance.
“We need to be careful,” he said one evening when you finally caught him alone, your voice already tight with everything you’d been holding in. “This could ruin your chances.”
You stared at him, something twisting painfully in your chest. “Is that what this is to you?”
“That’s not what I said.”
“It’s what it feels like,” you shot back, your voice rising despite yourself. “You said no one could replace me, and now you can’t even look at me.”
“I’m trying to protect you.”
“I don’t want your protection if it means constantly getting tossed to the side James.”
Silence stretched between you, heavy and suffocating.
“Then what do you want me to do?” he asked finally, frustration slipping through.
You hesitated, because the answer felt too big, too vulnerable to say out loud.
“I want you to act like you care—care about me—about us,” you said instead, quieter now.
His jaw tightened slightly, like he didn’t know how to respond to that, like anything he said would only make it worse.
Because before either of you could say anything else, you were being called away, your name cutting through the moment, breaking it apart before it could be resolved.
And just like that, it ended unfinished.
You were sitting on the floor of the practice room, wiping sweat from your forehead. You and James had a huge fight two days ago, and the silence between you felt like a heavy brick wall. You saw him standing by the door, looking nervous. He started to walk toward you, his eyes fixed on yours.
"Hey," James said, his voice a bit shaky. "Can we talk? I’ve been thinking about what I said, and I really want to—"
Taehyun, the newest trainee, came bursting through the door like a ball of lightning. He didn't even see James. He slid across the floor on his knees right up to you, holding a bag of gummy bears.
"I remembered you said these were your favorite!" Taehyun said, his face lighting up with a huge, boyish grin. "I had to go to three different stores to find the sour ones, but I got them!"
You laughed, touched by the gesture. "Taehyun, you didn't have to do that! Thank you."
Taehyun sat down right between you and James, effectively pushing James back. "Try the green one. They’re the best. Also, did you see the new choreography? I need you to help me with that spin. I keep falling over like a turtle."
James stood there, his hands balled into fists in his pockets. He tried to clear his throat, but Taehyun was already showing you a video on his phone, leaning his shoulder against yours. James sighed and walked away.
It became like that for the next week. Every time James would try to get close to you, Taehyun would always be there to stop it. You weren’t sure if he did it on purpose but perhaps it was best you and James kept your distance. You weren’t ready to face him after the last conversation you had.
The next morning, you were standing by the vending machines with Taehyun. He was leaning against the wall, flashing you that bright, easy grin that always made the stress of training disappear.
"You did great in dance today," Taehyun said, handing you a strawberry milk. "I was thinking... maybe after we finish tonight, we could grab some food? My treat."
He was looking at you with that soft, hopeful expression you hadn't quite figured out yet. You opened your mouth to answer, but a familiar hand suddenly gripped your shoulder.
James stepped between you and Taehyun, his face set in a hard line. "She’s busy tonight. We have things to go over."
Taehyun smile didn't fade, but his eyes sharpened. "She can speak for herself, James. We were just talking."
"Well, the talk is over," James snapped, pulling you slightly closer to his side. "Let's go."
“James. Let me go,” you spoke, freeing your self from his grasp. you were still hurt and didn’t want him to have it his way after he hurt you.
James looked at you, his brows furrowing in confusion and disappointment. “What do you mean?”
“I already agreed to go with him as friends, you’re being too unreasonable.” With that you picked up your bag and walked away.
Taehyun gave James a cocky grin as if he won a trophy or something before following you behind.
James lets a frustrated sigh wondering how he could even let things get to such a point, chastising himself for being such a bad boyfriend.
After a long day of practicing you were getting ready to leave. You were sure that you’re the only one left as everyone had left earlier.
But just as you swung your bag over your shoulder, a shadow fell over you. You turned around and saw James. He didn't say a word at first. He just jerked his head toward the hallway, nudging you to follow him. Your heart felt heavy. You didn't really want to go, but something in his eyes made you move.
He led you into office and shut the door. Before you could even ask what was going on, he pressed you back against the wood. His hands were shaking as they touched your waist, and then, he kissed you. It was fast, desperate, and messy.
You gasped, your hands flying to his chest to push him back. "James! What are you doing?"
He looked breathless, his hair falling over his forehead.
"You can't just do that," you said, your voice trembling. "You’ve ignored me for weeks. You act like I don't exist, you don't pay attention to me, and now you just... you think you can just kiss me and it's fine?"
"I know," James whispered, his voice cracking. "I know I messed up. I’ve been sitting in the dark just thinking about everything. The date we missed, the way I let you down... it’s been eating me alive. Andthen I see you with this new guy-he cant replace me. I won’t allow you too."
He didn't give you time to argue. He picked you up—not roughly, but like he was afraid you’d run away—and sat you down in his chair. Then, the guy who usually held his head so high dropped to his knees in front of you.
"James, stand up," you whispered, clearly not used to it.
"No," he said, clutching your hands. "I’m not moving. I am so sorry. I was stupid and selfish, and I hurt you. Please, just tell me you’ll forgive me. I’ll stay here all night if I have to. I won't stop until you say it’s okay."
His eyes were red, and you could see tears starting to pool, ready to spill over. All the anger you had been holding onto started to melt. You couldn't stand seeing him like this.
"It’s alright," you sighed, reaching out. "I forgive you, James."
You leaned down, cupping his face in your hands. His skin was warm. You leaned in and kissed him softly, intending to just give him a quick comfort, but James had other plans. He didn't let you pull away. He leaned upward, his hands sliding into your hair to keep you close, returning the kiss with a deep, hungry passion that told you he wasn't planning on letting you go again.
The kiss deepened, urgent and unrelenting, until you could barely think past the heat building in your core. Your hands tangled in his hair as his arms held you close, and a shiver ran through you as every frustration and every missed moment seemed to melt away.
Instinctively, you stepped up, pressing yourself against him. He sank into the chair just enough so that you could straddle him, your knees resting on either side of his hips.
You pulled back slightly, both of you gasping for air, foreheads brushing as you tried to catch your breath. The room was silent except for the soft sound of your rapid heartbeats and the faint rustle of your clothes as you adjusted your balance on his lap making him let out an unexpected groan.
You froze for a second, eyes widening as you realized how close you were. “O-oh… sorry,” you whispered, cheeks burning.
James didn’t answer right away. Instead, his hands moved slightly, adjusting your hips, holding you more firmly against him. His eyes darkened with a mix of desire and something almost possessive as he tilted his head to press a soft kiss against your jaw, dragging it down to your neck.
You caught your breath as his lips traced over the sensitive skin, his murmurs low and urgent. “I’ve missed this… missed you,” he said, voice rough with need. Then, almost teasingly, he added, “Let taehyun see me like this? He’ll regret ever thinking you’d notice anyone else.”
Your eyes widened. “James, that not—”
But he interrupted with a playful yet heated nibble against your neck, leaving a mark that would be impossible to hide. You gasped, trying to shift slightly, but he caught your hips, holding you perfectly still. “Dont move.”
“You look… perfect like this,” he whispered, lips brushing against the skin of your shoulder. “All mine. I want you to know it.”
Heat pooled in your chest, a mix of embarrassment, desire, and excitement. Your fingers threaded through his hair, tugging gently as you tried to reclaim some control. “You’re insane,” you murmured, breath catching.
“Maybe,” he said, a smirk in his voice even as his lips pressed another trail of soft, possessive kisses along your neck and collarbone. “I don’t care, you can only be mine.”
You scoffed with a little smile tugging your lips, “youre’ unbelievable.”
Finally, your hands cupped his face, holding him close as your lips met in a slow, heated kiss, both of you losing track of the room around you. James tilted his head, deepening the kiss, his hands roaming all over your back. He becomes a bit bolder, a hand sliding down to squeeze your ass making you let out a small gasp in between the kiss.
Uhm imagine the rest guys🥹
