I love Billy hargrove in a - I understand he has faults and is constantly an asshole to others but deserved better, abused his whole life by a bigoted father who forced him to reflect those same ideals, abandoned by the only person who ever cared for him, never had any real friends, could only rely on himself, homesick for a home he never had, forced to conform to a version of masculinity he despised, English nerd, grade A student, repressed gay man who used his oversexualised relationships with women to distract from a queerness that cost him the only safety and stability he ever had, resented his sister and stepmother for being spared his father's abuse but longed for a meaningful bond with someone who might finally understand him (max), would do anything to make sure Max didn't have to grow up as afraid as he did; even if his methods weren't great, weirdly obsessed with Steve harrington, sacrificed himself to prove to his sister that despite being controlled his entire life, saving her was a choice he made - kinda way.
