Shown by his Bible, visits to churches, and the writings to god, he can be assumed to have been raised religious. This means, if he was young, he may have seen the best imaginary friend as a guardian angel. Someone who watches over him and keeps him safe.

This could explain why the intruder did not harm him in my opinion. It didn’t seem required to take the form of some kind of angel, but it’s invitation to earth may have come with the caveat of not being able to harm.

This may not be a bad thing for him though. After all, a big source of fear for many is just a presence in the dark. Not hurting them, but overtly malicious.

I don't think Gabe should be Mark's dad, but rather Cesar's. Some part of me thinks it's sadder for Gabriel to have a mortal son who he has to watch die later on. Plus Cesar's an alternate by the time we see him, so I feel like it makes a little more sense.
