jason todd seeing sweetheart!reader on a date more jason x sweetheart!reader here
jasonâs night was shit. patrol ran late, gotham decided to be particularly charming in the early hours of the morning, and now heâs standing outside a coffee shop at noon with dried blood on his knuckles and a headache threatening to split his skull. all he wants is a black coffee. any other day he mightâve indulged in a sugary donut, but heâs sick of everything today.
he pushes through the door. the little bell above it rings, warm air hitting his face as he steps inside. itâs a quaint place. fairy lights line the ceilingâs perimeter, potted plants live in the corner, and the baristas donât try to make small talk with him. his shoulders relax at the smell of freshly brewed coffee. who knew that all it took was some caffeine to calm red hood.
just as heâs about to stroll up to the counter, he hears something familiar. the sound of your laughter makes the hair on his arms stand up. his head whips toward the noise, and there you areâthe reason for his particularly sour mood lately.
his first thought is shit. his second is that you look pretty. youâre sitting across from some guy near the window, both hands wrapped around a mug as you listen to him talk. thereâs a smile on your faceâand itâs real.
jason stops walking. his entire body tenses. he shouldnât be surprised. youâre allowed to date. even more so after whatever shit he pulled at the manor. youâre allowed to meet people. youâre allowed to have a life that doesnât involve him. still, something unpleasant twists in his stomach when the guy makes you laugh.
he forces himself to look away. for a bit he just stares at the menu. he repeats caramel macchiato five times his head because he can still hear your conversation from here. his blunt finger nails press into his palms, leaving crescent shaped marks in their wake.
get the coffee. thatâs all.
he orders through gritted teeth, waits, and tries to keep his eyes firmly on the counter. every few seconds, they drift back.
you look like youâre having a good time. thereâs a softness to your smile that he hasnât seen in weeks, the kind that reaches your eyes when youâre genuinely comfortable. youâre listening to your date talk, occasionally laughing at whatever heâs saying, your fingers curled loosely around your coffee cup. the guy seems nice, too. annoyingly nice. jason can only see the back of his head, but he can tell heâs actually listening to you. he chuckles at your jokes. leans in when you speak. what a prick.
when you finally stand to leave, your date follows. jason quickly grabs the coffee thatâs been waiting on the counter and walks out. he even manages to make it ten feet down the sidewalk before stopping.
ââŚfuck.â he looks down at the coffee in his hand. then he glances back at the coffee shop. he could go home. scratch that, he should go home. you clearly have someone to walk you home.
he turns around anyway. gotham is a dangerous city. it can be shady during the afternoon. and youâre dickâs best friend. it would be irresponsible to leave you in the hands of a stranger. it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that heâs feeling jealous and he misses you.
the door opens. you step outside, pulling your coat tighter around yourself. the guy follows behind you. jasonâs molars grind. you exchange a few words he canât hear. then the guy gives you a quick hug. you smile and look back at him as you walk the other way.
a minute later, you turn toward the sidewalk. your eyes land on jason immediately. thereâs a flicker of surprise. then something colder sets in. âjason?â
âhey.â he did his best to act surprised.
you glance at the coffee in his hand. âhi.â you reply a tight-lipped smile. no jason! like there usually is. no warm embrace. just hi. he doesnât like the taste of his own medicine. âwhat are you doing out here?â
âneeded coffee.â he motions with the cup in his hand. you nod. heâs waiting for you to fill the silence. ask him about his day. crack a joke. tell him some ridiculous story. it never comes.
âwell,â you gesture vaguely down the sidewalk. âi should probably go.â
âwhere are you headed?â
âhome.â
âiâll walk you.â he offers hastily.
you grimace slightly. âyou donât have to.â
âi know.â
you look at him for a moment. then shrug. âokay.â
you start walking. jason falls into step beside you. for the first few minutes, neither of you says anything. itâs weird. heâs walked beside you before. but that was before everything happened. usually, youâd be talking his ear off by now.
now youâre quiet. your hands disappear into the pockets of your jacket, shoulders curling inward as a gust of wind rushes past. jason glances over. maybe this is what he wanted. distance. but god it feels wrong.
âhowâve you been?â
âgood.â you murmur.
he looks ahead and swallows. âgood?â
âmhm.â a particularly chilly breeze sends you moving closer to jason. heâs sure his face is red. heâs a man starved after weeks away from you. even the slightest proximity can send him reeling. âwhat about you?â
he settles for a quick, âfine.â a muscle in his jaw ticks.
âthatâs good.â
silence settles. the only sounds are your footsteps and the whistle of the wind. jason almost laughs. this is painful. heâd spent weeks wishing he could talk to you again. now that youâre beside him, he has no idea what to say.
âi, uh, saw you with a friend inside.â he scratches the back of his neck. real smooth. maybe by calling him a friend he can manifest it into reality.
your eyes flick toward him. âwhat about him?â
âhe nice?â
you shrug and nod. âyeah. heâs nice.â
jason nods and mumbles, âgood.â although, by his tone, itâs anything other than good.
you glance at him and look away. then you glance again. that was not the look of someone happy for you.âyou sound disappointed.â
âm not.â the response is uncomfortably quick.
âokay.â there it is again. that little okay. thereâs no heat to it. no anger or sarcasm. just no interest.
he looks down at the sidewalk. âyouâve been avoiding me.â
you laugh quietly and shake your head.
âjason.â you deadpan. he raises a brow. âyou havenât spoken to me in weeks.â he goes quiet. you keep walking. âfigured you just didnât want to.â your jacket rustles as you shrug.
âthatâs not-â he stops himself and bites his lip.
you look over. ânot what?â he doesnât answer. i wanted to isnât exactly an explanation. you wait a second. when he still doesnât say anything, you turn back toward the sidewalk. âyou donât have to talk to me just because you feel bad.â
his chest tightens. that couldnât be farther from reality. âi donât feel bad.â
your face drops slightly. âokay.â
he exhales sharply. âthatâs not what i meant.â
âthen what did you mean?â
he looks into your endless gaze, and for a second, everything heâs been trying to bury sits right there between you. because i missed you. because i think about you all the time. because seeing you with someone else made me realize how stupid iâve been. instead, all he manages is âi donât know.â
your expression softens for half a second. disappointment isnât the right word because you werenât expecting anything. âmy buildingâs just over here.â the lobby door comes into view. the hypnotizing click of your boots stop. you turn to jason. he stops, but stays facing forward. he canât look at you. not after what a fool heâs been acting. âthanks for walking with me.â you murmur.
then youâre gone with the click of the door. he stays rooted in the same spot, staring at the same crack in the sidewalk. when he finally moves, itâs a stomping motion. a deep groan fills the air as he throws his head back.
iâm writing the next part for jason todd x sweetheart!reader and its lowkey pissing me off bc i would be the biggest bitch toward him but i have to reel it in bc reader is a sweetheart and everything đ

Hi! I have a request for Frank, maybe something like him and reader get into a heated argument about something and makes reader cry. They end up making up at the end
âstop that.â
you let out a watery laugh, immediately swiping at your cheek with the sleeve of your his sweatshirt. âiâm not doing anything.â you blink, keeping your eyes glued to the ceiling.
âyeah, you are.â
âyou say mean things then get mad when i cry.â you grumble under your breath. warmth buzzes through your faceâyouâre not sure if itâs anger or embarrassment.
âstop.â his voice is rough. heâs not angry at you. whatever anger he had before is long gone. heâs disappointed at himself.
you shake your head, turning away before he can get another look at you. the sleeves of your sweatshirt wrinkle in your fist. absolutely not. you are not doing this. not in front of him.
âhey.â his heavy footsteps come toward you. âlook at me.â his voice is still gruff, but thereâs a soft whine at the end of his sentence.
still looking away, you shake your head no. another tear slips free. your sweatshirt clad hand covers your mouth. âno.â
âfuck.â his footsteps grow closer and closer. and then heâs standing in front of you. âi hate it when you cry.â your focus shifts to your feet.
you stifle a weak laugh. âthatâs too bad.â
âiâm serious.â his heart cracks as he looks at you. your eyes are red and puffy. his hand finds your wrist, fingers wrapping loosely around it. you try to pull away. his grip tightens. âlook at me.â
âi said no.â
âyeah. and iâm ignoring you.â
âyouâre an asshole.â
âand what about it?â
you shake your head again, eyes still fixed on the floor. looking at him right now feels impossible. if you look at him, youâre going to completely lose it.
âcome on.â his voice is quieter now. his thumb lifts, brushing a stray tear off your cheek. âdonât shut me out, sweetheart.â his thumb moves to your mouth, brushing your pouty bottom lip.
you finally look up just enough to glare at him. âthen stop trying to get yourself killed.â you fold your arms tighter across your chest.
his eyebrows lift. âi donât try to-â his argument dies on his tongue. he bites his lip roughly, shaking his head and muttering something incoherent under his breath. a sharp exhale draws out of him before he speaks again. âok. iâll be more careful from now on.â
âgood.â you nod. the tension in your shoulders releases.
âgood.â he repeats, thumb still brushing comforting strokes on your face. ânow câmon.â he motions to the couch. âyouâve still got a good two hours of lecturing me left.â

frank has been watching you for the better part of an hour. you knowâobviously. he isnât exactly subtle about it. heâs never subtle about anything when it comes to you.
youâd caught him outside when you arrived. caught him again when you went to the bathroom. then when you looked through the window and saw him standing across the street, arms crossed, staring directly at you. so naturally, you decide to make it worse.
the guy sitting next to you is cute. pretty, actually. sharp jawline, doe eyes, plump lips. the type of face that never saw anything real. never experienced any conflict besides daddy taking away his credit card. the kind of guy your friends would immediately approve of, and, more importantly, the kind of guy frank absolutely hates.
you laugh at something he says. then lean a little closer, letting the bare skin of your thigh brush his. you even flutter your lashes at him, nodding with every word like you actually care. itâs the classic combo that always riles frank up.
outside, frankâs expression doesnât change. which is almost more irritating. but this is how the game of cat and mouse always goes. so you push further. another laugh. another touch. another ten minutes.
the guy across from you is completely oblivious. his hands are all over you, touching and grabbing like youâre his already. his eyes have that boyish glint in them, like he just won the lotteryâthey always look like that at first. this is the part where you almost feel bad. but your pride is hugeâego even biggerâand youâd be damned if you let frank beat you. so, you grab onto the poor guyâs hand and lead him out of the bar.
you arenât planning on bringing him home, just walking toward it. frank, who has every route to your apartment mapped, notices right away. you are really pushinâ it this time. he grunts. his steps are heavy as he follows a few feet behind.
a few giggles later, and a figure behind you clears their throat. your stomach is already buzzing as you turn around. frank stands there, annoyance apparent in each micro-expression. his eyes flick to the guy. then back to you.
âok.â he says in his gruff, sexy voice. âtimes up.â he crosses his arms, showing off those muscular forearms. were they always that big?
you smile, twirling a piece of your hair. âok?â
the guy frowns. âuh-â
frank doesnât even look at him. he doesnât take his eyes off of you. they drag up and down slow, taking everything in. âget outta here, bud.â is all he says.
you bite the inside of your cheek, looking up at frank with doe eyes. the guy sizes up frank and visibly swallows. âyou know this guy?â his voice is absent of the cockiness it once held.
âunfortunately.â you sigh, rolling your eyes, even though a grin still graces your lips.
frankâs jaw tightens. âvery funny.â
you smile sweetly, making his pants feel tighter. âthank you.â
the guy finally gets the hint and screws off. he mutters something under his breath and speed walks the opposite way.
you watch him go. then look back at frank. âyou scared him.â
âgood.â he growls, lifting his arm and checking his watch. âhe had an hour.â an hour too long that is.
you raise your eyebrows. âoh, so youâre timing it now?â a sense of triumph heats your skin. yeah, youâre definitely winning. as you move closer, you drag your finger up the tanned skin of his arm.
âno.â he mutters. you hum in reply as he looks the other way. something burning hot creeps up the back of his neck and slithers its way down to his pants. suddenly, he grabs your hand.
that just makes your smirk deepen. âyouâre obsessed with me.â
he scoffs, taking a moment before replying. ââcourse i fuckinâ am.â his bluntness sends electricity through you. frank stares. you stare back. neither of you look away. finally, he sighs. ââm tired of this shit.â
your smile fades a little. âwhat shit?â
âthis.â he gestures toward your skimpy outfit. âyou going out. doing this. tryinâ to piss me off.â
you shrug, crossing your arms over your chest. âbut itâs fun.â
he stifles a laugh, shaking his head. unbelievable. âyouâre something else, you know that?â the roughness of his skin touches yours as he strokes your cheek.
you giggle and nod. âiâve been told.â
he chuckles, hands moving down to your jaw. he grips your face tight enough to make you gasp. then he leans in close and whispers, âbut youâre mine.â he pecks your lips, still holding onto you. âand iâm yours.â
jason todd keeping distance from sweetheart!reader note: sorry in advance!!! more jason x sweetheart here
the first thing you notice when you wake up is that you have no idea where you are. the second thing you notice is that your head hurts badly. the unfamiliar ceiling looms above you, causing you to blink a few times.
âwhat?â you sit up slowly, immediately regretting it when your head pounds. with a thud you fall back against the mattress, pressing your hands against your temples. hangovers really arenât for the week.
a few minutes later, you try again. the comforter wrinkles under your fingers as you tug against it for makeshift momentum. this time, you manage to sit up completely. you wipe imaginary sweat off your forehead with a huff.
this apartment is far too neat to be dickâs. it also has booksâŚmeaning itâs definitely not his. you look around. huh. dark paint stains the walls, each absent of any decor. a desk sits tucked into the corner of the room with exactly one journal and one pen in the center. thereâs no pictures hung on the walls, just a framed wayne family photo on the nightstandâprobably a housewarming gift.
thatâs when the memories flood back. jason. your face immediately heats up. oh god. you remember pieces of last night. the partyâŚand running into himâŚand telling him he was pretty. you touched his face at one point? somewhere thereâs a vague memory of him carrying you?
you bury your face in your hands. âoh. my. god.â getting placed into his car is the last thing you can recall. you groan into your hands and stay there for a while. jason is so sweet. he couldâve left you at dickâs to fend for yourself, but he didnât. heat blooms on your cheeks. if you didnât have a crush on him before, you definitely do now.
âjason?â you call out, still halfway under the covers. no response. slowly, you get out of bedâalbeit not gracefullyâand check the bathroom, then the living room.
thereâs nothing. no jason. no note. no glass of water. not even an advil sitting somewhere on the counter.
you stare at the empty apartment for a few seconds. âokay.â disappointment settles in your stomach like a pit. he probably had somewhere to be. heâs a busy man. he doesnât owe you anything either. after all, heâs the one who helped you.
âokkkk,â you sigh, trudging back to his room to collect your belongings. itâs fine. before you leave, you take one last glance around the apartment. just the same as before.
you donât see him for three weeks after that.
~
the manor is crowded when you finally see him again. youâd almost forgotten how easy it was to go weeks without seeing jasonâalmost.
youâre walking into the living room when you spot him. heâs sitting in one of the armchairs, flipping through something on his phone. your face immediately brightens. âjason.â
his eyes lift. for half a second, something flickers across his face. itâs gone before you can analyze it. âhey.â
thatâs it.
you slow down. maybe the excitement isnât mutual. ââŚhi.â you smile anyway, though your voice is weaker than before.
heâs probably just tired or heâs having a bad day. your mind brings you back to that morning, waking up confused and sad. there has to be some perfectly reasonable explanation for why he disappeared after that night.
you stop a few feet away from him. âi havenât seen you in forever.â you gush with a giggle
âyeah.â he murmurs, already looking back down at his phone.
suddenly, youâre far too aware of yourself standing in front of him. you swallow, clasping your hands behind your back. either bruce raised the thermostat, or embarrassment is eating you alive. you wait anyway. âso, howâve you been?â
âfine.â
you shift your weight and nod. âgood.â he hums, not bothering to look up from his device. you try again. âumâŚâ an awkward laugh escapes you. âi wanted to thank you.â
his eyes lift again. âfor what?â
âfor taking care of me that night.â
his jaw tightens. âyou donât have to.â
the sentence catches you off guard. you open your mouth, but nothing comes out. still, a smile stays on your face. âi know.â embarrassment creeps into your cheeks. âbut i wanted to.â
he looks away. âyou were drunk. i did what anyone wouldâve done.â when he looks back at you, his gaze is hardenedâthe exact opposite of how he looked at you the other night.
something in your chest sinks a little. âright.â you nod. âof course.â he probably doesnât remember it all. thatâs for the better. except then you remember the way he looked at you. the way he laughed. the way he carried you like you weighed nothing. you smile softly. âi hope i didnât embarrass myself too badly.â
âyou did.â he retorts blankly. the smile youâd been holding onto slips before you can stop it. he doesnât even look up. âyou were a mess.â
âoh.â for a second, you donât know what to say to that. so you laugh, quiet and awkward, hoping itâll make the moment feel less uncomfortable. âwell. thatâs comforting.â
âyou shouldnât drink that much.â something in his voice has changed. itâs colder now. âyou couldâve gotten hurt.â
the words make it uncomfortable to breathe properly. âi know.â hesitantly, you nod. you blink faster, hoping he doesnât notice your glassy eyes.
âgood.â and thatâs it. no apology. no little smile to let you know heâs teasing. nothing.
you look down at your hands, suddenly very interested in the way your fingers are tangled together. you shouldâve just said thank you and left it alone. âwellâŚâ you pull your mouth into something that hopefully resembles a smile. âit was nice seeing you.â you turn before he can see how quickly it disappears.
âyou too.â he replies, causing you to stop. for some reason, that hurts more than it should. you look back and heâs still staring at his phone. like he canât even bother to look at you.
you deflate with a sigh. âbye, jason.â
âbye.â
the second youâre out of sight, jason drops his phone onto the armchair. his hands drag over his face. âfuck.â
he wanted to say hi. he wanted to ask if your head hurt the next morning. he wanted to apologize for leaving without saying anything. he wanted to tell you that he hadnât left because you were annoying or because youâd embarrassed yourself.
he left because waking up next to you had scared the hell out of him. for one night, he let himself forget who he was. he let himself have something nice. then he looked at you sleeping peacefully in his bed and realized exactly what kind of life youâd be stepping into if he let you get close.
all the violence. the secrets. the blood. the nights where he didnât come home. the parts of himself he still didnât know how to fix.
he wasnât dick. he wasnât charming and funny like him. he canât hold his temper like him. heâs not pure of heart like he is. you deserve someone like thatâsomeone jason will never be.
he looks toward the hallway you disappeared down. his chest aches. he knows heâs already hurting you. imagining that makes him ill.
is pissed at mj. genuinely pissed. heâs not sobbing into a pillow or dramatically staring at old pictures. ok, sure, she lost her memories, but after his letter and his very heartfelt confession, she still chose some other guy? bullshit. itâs the type of anger thatâs eating him alive. he just needs something else to occupy his brain.
notices you during patrol almost by accident. youâre completely ordinary, but somehow compelling. thatâs what catches his attention. youâre rushing through the crowded streets, trying to make it to work on time. he follows becauseâŚwhy not? watches you take a deep breath before slipping on heels and walking into some boring finance job
starts seeing you again and again.
has always been observant. being spider-man practically requires it. remembering faces, routines, exits, all the tiny details people donât realize theyâre giving away. but heâs not sure if he started seeking you out, or if it happened coincidentally.
lurks outside of your work during lunch time just to see you shuffle across the street to your favorite cafe. it should end at that, but it doesnât. he knows which route you take home. he knows which days you seem tired. he knows your position at work. he knows your full name and address.
tells himself itâs harmless. heâs spider-man. heâs just keeping civilians safe. itâs part of the job. exceptâŚheâs not just protecting you. heâs observing and waiting. waiting for his chance.
becomes irritated when you change your routine. he wonât admit it, but heâll spend half the night wondering where you went. heâll even swing across the city telling himself heâs going to check one thing. one thing becomes two. then suddenly heâs perched on a rooftop across from your apartment, staring at your naked silhouette through your sheer curtains.
beats a guy half to death and frames him as a burglar after he sees you out with him. the police donât question it because why would they? your friendly neighborhood spider-man is keeping the city safe.
notices that youâre becoming paranoid. you keep turning around, watching behind your shoulder. he stays out later because of that. watches you closer. it takes him a week before he realizes youâre becoming paranoid because of him.

jason has suffered for two hours too long at the party. how dick managed to get him here is still a mystery. he hasnât been to a proper house party sinceâŚwell never. being a masked vigilante your whole life does that to you.
heâs been standing against the wall for most of the night, nursing the same drink and pretending heâs actually interested in whatever roy is talking about. he isnât. in fact, the only reason heâs still here is because of you.
youâre one of dickâs friends. sickly sweetâannoyingly sweet, actually. the kind of person who smiles at everyone and makes him feel warm and fuzzy when he can manage to hold a conversation with you.
jason doesnât really know you. sure heâs stalked your insta a few times and memorized your birthday, but he doesnât officially know you. youâve talked before. usually just passing each other in dickâs apartment or at some stupid family dinner. nothing worth remembering.
except jason remembers everything. he remembers the way you smile when you see him. the way you always say hi, even when he gives you some half-assed response. he remembers your laughâgod, how could he forget it.
itâs stupid because what would someone like you see in him? youâre pure sunshine and heâs jason. so he keeps his distance. or, at least, he tries to. the universe doesnât like to side with jason, though. which is probably why, three seconds laterâŚthud. you walk directly into his chest.
jason barely moves. you, however, stumble backward like youâve just collided with a brick wall.
âoops,â you slur, losing your balance and heading straight for the floor boards. before you can even come close to falling, he catches your elbow.
âyou okay?â his eyes soften, pupils dilating like they always do when he sees you.
you look up at him. your cheeks are flushed, eyes a little glassy, and youâre smiling way too brightly. âmhm.â you nod.
âok, good.â he nods back. a few moments pass and youâre still staring at him through your lashes. he furrows a brow.
âhi, jason.â you gape. liquor runs through your veins, making your vision wobbly and your judgement cloudy.
something warm creeps up the back of his neck. he clears his throat and murmurs, âhi.â two minutes he mentally notes. heâs been holding eye contact with you for two minutes.
you continue flutter your lashes at him. he waits. you donât seem to have any intention of moving. âyou just ran into me.â
âi know.â heat floods your cheeks.
âyou sure youâre okay?â
âyes.â you nod again. then immediately sway sideways.
jasonâs hand tightens around your arm. âright.â he looks at the red cup dangling loosely from your other hand. âhow much have you had?â
you squint at it, swirling it in your cup. âthis?â you ask, still swirling the liquid and coming dangerously close to staining your adorable white dress thatâs been driving jason absolutely crazy. âi donât know.â
âjesus,â he mutters, rubbing the bridge of his nose. you smile and giggle. he sighs, though thereâs no real irritation behind it. âwhereâs dick?â
you immediately point across the room. âthere.â
jason follows your finger. dick is passed out on the couch. or, more accurately, approximately half of dick is on the couch. his torso is sprawled across the cushions, one leg hanging over the armrest and the other somehow wedged underneath the coffee table. jason stares. âuh, is he alive?â
âmhm.â you nod, tucking hair behind your ear. âprobably.â
jason looks back at you. youâre already staring again. âgreat.â
you smile up at him. âyou look pretty.â you reach out and touch his cheek.
he coughs, nearly choking on his own spit. âwhat?â electricity shoots through his skin. hopefully you wonât notice that heâs burning up underneath your hand.
âpretty.â you say it like itâs the most obvious thing in the world. âyour hair.â your fingers stay on him, but drag up to his hair. goosebumps raise on his skin as you brush through his hair. âand your eyes.â your digits return back to his face, brushing his cheekbones.
jasonâs expression goes blank. he opens his mouth a few times, but his throat is as dry as a desert. âyouâre drunk.â he manages to sputter out.
âi know.â you reply absentmindedly, still running your fingers across his skin.
âvery drunk.â he emphasizes. his pupils must be the size of the moon right now.
you lean a little closer, lowering your voice conspiratorially. âbut itâs true.â
he swallows, looking to the side. his fingers drum against his pants. he could just leave you here. tuck you into dickâs guest bed and leave some advil and water. thatâs that right thing to do. distancing himself is the right thing to do. instead, he motions his head toward the door, âcâmon.â
âwhere?â you ask, but youâre already following him like a lost puppy. when he starts walking, you grab onto his hand, intertwining your fingers with his.
he looks down at your angelic hands intermingled with his. it should be a sin that he can touch you. âto my apartment.â
your eyebrows lift. âyou have a home?â
he gives you a look. âyes.â
âi thought you lived in a cave.â you reply blankly. âlike batman.â
âiâm gonna pretend you didnât say that.â he exhales sharply. you giggle again, bringing the plastic cup to your lips. before the liquor can touch your tongue, jasonâs confiscating it. âgive me that.â he mutters, setting it on a counter nearby. when he turns back, youâre staring at him like he kicked your puppy.
you jut out your bottom lip slightly, eyes filled withâŚsadness? âjason!â you exclaim, tugging against his hand and stopping him from walking.
âyouâve had enough.â he says calmly, running his thumb over your knuckles.
for a second you just stare at him. your eyes are doe and glassy. he swears youâre about to cry. he even squints his eyes, bracing for impact. then, you simply say, âokay.â and youâre smiling again.
âwhat?â
âyouâre so nice.â you gush, stroking up and down his bare arm.
he looks down at you, completely puzzled, and just laughs. âsure.â he looks toward dick again. still unconscious. then back at you. yeah, heâs on his own. youâre swaying slightly where you stand, eyes following him like youâre afraid heâll disappear. his expression softens despite himself. âcan you walk?â
âyes.â you say. then an amazing thought pops into your mind. âbut can you carry me?â youâre grinning ear to ear.
he chuckles lightly, shaking his head. âcâmon, princess.â he leans down, scooping you into his arms bridal style. this is definitely not distancing himself.
you squeal as he lifts you up like you weigh nothing. now this is a real man. no argument or excuse, he just picked you up, no questions asked.
he walks toward his car trying to ignore the zoo in his stomach. focus, jason. one foot in front of the other. heâs repeating that in his mind when he feels pressure around his bicep. he looks down. âuh, are you squeezing my bicep?â
this was going to be a long nightâŚbut jason couldnât say he minded.
