We’re eighteen, so we live every day as if it’s our last—loving and hating fiercely. It’s an age where we falter and get hurt easily, and are hurting more than anyone. Despite that, the reason we can look back on that time and say we were happy is one person’s warm outstretched hand. Not more, not less, but just one person—if we each approach one friend who’s crying and stretch out a hand like this, there’s nothing that I—we—can’t endure. It’s okay. You can hurt. The times you are experiencing now are at times lonely, difficult, and uncertain. But it’s all okay because you all are still 18.

It was truly a long and harsh winter. In the world where spring has come, I often think of the seeds that are asleep within the ice, unable to sprout. I’d like it if warm spring showers would fall and melt the ice away, so that the seeds could sprout and stand, and the world could be covered in spring flowers.

That time, too, you ran away because you didn’t have to courage to handle the pain, and I fought that pain instead of you. Do you understand? If it hadn’t been for me, you would already have died, miserable and alone. But who is calling whom a fake?

I believe in things like fate and connection. If they didn’t exist, why would those words have been made in the first place? So even if I wanted to run away, it’s too late now. We’ve already met, our connection has been formed, and our fate has begun.

When you are losing, you start to wonder if the small wins are worth it if you’ll ultimately lose anyway. But when you are winning, you start to look at the world differently. You’re thankful for your opponent and every move you’ve made to make the win possible — the smaller moments were what made the win possible. If you forget the significance of the smaller moments, you lose sight of the whole game. When did you start losing those moments?

We don’t know what we reveal, but we want to reveal so much about ourselves. Why do people want to confess to others? Baduk defines its world with horizontal and vertical lines. If a baduk board were infinite, if the world were a limitless canvas, would winning and losing be possible? We find a part of that world that’s ours. We reveal ourselves to find comfort and understanding.

Inside that misconception and excuse, I was really happy. Even if that happiness was a lie, I thought that if I insisted a thousand times, it would come true. I thought that if I insisted a thousand times, dream would become reality. But even when I closed my eyes and shut my ears, no matter how much I argued, the truth remained as it was, in its place.

As you live, there are many times you will think that the world is small. Everyone has had the experience of meeting a stranger later to find out that you were fated. Be it ill-fated or destiny, amazingly, they all appear.

Most mistakes end up as forgotten regrets, but that’s not always the case. Some just stick with you; you can’t forget nor reverse it.

Since you're already here, hang in there no matter what. Here, the one who endures until the end is the winner. To endure...means that, by whatever means, you move toward wan-saeng (complete life). You may not know it, but in baduk, they have these terms: misaeng (incomplete life - incomplete move), wan-saeng (complete life - can survive any counterattack move). We are all still...misaeng.

People with strong motivations to succeed are like tornados. They give the people around them a hard time and do them harm. But their center is silent. Take charge of the center.
