Happiness. The desire to achieve Happiness is pretty much the one and only thing we as humans mutually have in common. It doesn’t matter what race, sex, social status, religion, political belief or color we are. We all just want to be happy in some way, shape, or form. Spending quality time individually with my boys is really important to me. When they were little I treated them as the same person because at the time it was easier for me. As they got older it was clear that they were indeed individuals, and I wanted to get to know each of them. So now I make it a point to meet them where they are at in life. Some of my fondest memories were when my boys were little during Christmas. The excitement in the air on Christmas Eve was immeasurable. Tonight’s date night was at La Costa Canyon High School to watch CHICAGO! I didn’t know a soul on that stage, but I do know the importance of supporting high school performing arts. I was swept away with the incredible talent on that stage tonight. From the costume design to the choreography, this production was a 10 in my book 💯. We actually never asked to be born. We are innocently brought into this world craving love, protection from harm and needing guidance on how to live our best life. But this scenario is not always the hand we are dealt. So we survive on our own terms with the limited resources we are provided with the hopes everything will just work out for us some day. One of the greatest life lessons I’ve learned is it takes a village to raise a child. Just In Time For Foster Youth has done just that. They are an INCREDIBLE “village” that has created a dynamic platform of support for some of San Diego’s finest exiting foster youth. These young adults ages 18 to 26 need you. Those you spend the most time with have a huge influence on your moods, how you view the world and the expectations you have of yourself. When you surround yourself with positive people, you’re more likely to adopt empowering beliefs and see life as happening for you instead of to you. These are the people I spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 12 months a year with. Most people label these types of humans as “coworkers”. I’m lucky enough to call them my people, my friends, and my extended family in many cases. They put paper plates on their heads and pose while I take photos of them to only reply about dumb they look. The sliding glass door in our bedroom is my least favorite thing in our house. It’s covered with half peeled away tint from a previous tenant, along with months...fine years...of smeared paw prints. I sat up one morning and tried to avoid gazing out of it as I normally do, to find a beautiful rainbow right before my eyes. I quickly grabbed my phone on my nightstand to snap a photo. It dawned on me that this image is a lot like life. We laser focus on the crap we dislike about our lives and invest so much time & energy sweating the small stuff that it consumes us and our perspective on life becomes blurred and we only see our struggle & lack. We all tend to look at life through eyes similar to a dirty sliding glass door. But we have the choice to decide if that’s where it stops, or if we can look past it all to really see the true beauty of life underneath. Needless to say, I never saw a speck of tint or paw marks on the window that morning. Instead that rainbow consumed me, and I was so incredibly grateful I had a sliding glass door to capture that moment❤️. I read somewhere that the true meaning of life is to be of service. I can personally attest that this theory rings true to me, and I am the best version of myself when lost in the service of others. The beauty of being of service looks different to everyone. It could be physically getting out there and working with others directly, it could be needlepointing gratitude packs in the comfort of your home, or it could be supporting days like today, @givingtuesday, where you can support an organizations mission to do good with a monetary donation of any amount.
