“one, two, three, four, five, six, seven…” something was wrong. alistair didn’t know what was wrong, but he knew something was wrong. he counted again, “one, two, three. ten. one, two. twelve.” none of his lamps were missing or off, the shadows weren’t too dark, a quick look in the bathroom revealed no one to be lying in wait to attack, but his skin was crawling like there was a thousand termites or centipedes or whatever creepy crawlies decided to make a home out of his body tonight.
he had to get out of there. run. leave. leave and run. run and leave. he had to get out; go. never look back; never come back. he wasn’t supposed to be here.
he shouldn’t be here.
his heart was beating fast in his chest, turning his stomach, parching his throat. shaking his hands out did nothing to alleviate the feeling, only add to the growing… anxiety. this is anxiety. he knew the feeling well, but not like this. not in this way. he knew all the reasons for his anxiety, but this one he didn’t. not that it mattered; the feeling was riding him hard and from one instant to the next he had a duffle bag in front of him and what little personal possessions he had were tossed in haphazardly. the how didn’t matter only the end goal.
leave, leave, leave, leave, leave.
there was no slowing this feeling, it only grew the longer it took him to do a double check for anything that would be missed. why was he feeling like this?
another check. he was at his door now, about to close it behind him and never come back, but something still rang wrong in his head. this wasn’t something he felt. he’d never felt like this before, this wasn’t—
the door next to his.
ece.
something eased inside him; not wholly, her powers still projecting onto him, but the slightest relief that came from figuring out what was wrong.
body wound tight with tension, alistair made his way back inside and made a beeline for his fridge. it was sparsely stocked, but it had what he needed, and he tossed them into his duffle bag, not bothering to unpack, or maybe not able to with ece’s emotions coursing through his system.
then, he was at her door, knocking like an incessant bastard with no manners, because he was one. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. knock. something ticked inside him, her, actually, annoyance? more panic? didn’t matter, he continued knocking until—
click. the door opened, and alistair held out a bottle he’d taken from the bar a while back, not as a gift offering, but in the way someone demanded you take something.
“it’s cheap. it’s strong. it gets the job done, and there’s a job to be done here, because I am feeling everything you are right now.” he spoke fast, face tight in a mix of annoyance. anxiety, and reluctant understanding; she’d been on the opposite end of this some weeks ago when she first arrived and came pounding on his door in a similar manner.
“I also brought ice cream; strawberry. you can have a scoop, maybe two.”
