Save The Tears for When We Win -Natsu Dragneel

But. Oh god. He’s always so careful with his hugs. So, so careful. Like, compare them to Hunk’s:

Keith’s hugs are just…. they are so gentle… there’s no pressure… everything is slow and soft…. he’s so careful not to overdo it…..

Keith gives the softest hugs, they are barely there… and that’s so interesting. Keith doesn’t shy away from physical contact, he reaches out when someone needs help getting up and has no problems with placing his hand on someone’s arm/shoulder to encourage them etc. It’s not the touch itself that troubles him. Look at the group hug, he doesn’t mind getting squished between other bodies. Heck, he obviously likes it!!

But his hugs. His hugs are like his smiles. Keith isn’t used to showing affection. He loves receiving it, it doesn’t embarrass him at all, but he doesn’t really know how to do it himself. His hugs are soft and tender and careful, always open so that the other one can pull away in case they feel uncomfortable or don’t want him. 

Apparently everyone is freaking out and salty about the end of the chapter so let me spin a different perspective on my interpretation. Thanks fo @siriusly-random and @taleen777 for listening to me on this.

I’ve read a lot of posts in regards to Natsu and Lucy’s feelings for each other, and I firmly believe that Natsu IS aware of his feelings for Lucy. But because Natsu is Natsu, he doesn’t need more from her than he already has. All he wants is for her to be happy, he doesn’t need something romantic.

As for Lucy, I’m going to pull on one of Taleen‘s posts here.

“Lucy’s idea of love is a mix between what she’s read in books and what she’s seen in magazines. She has never experienced it first-hand. She doesn’t really know what real love is like, with all its ups and downs. Realizing the true essence of her feelings for Natsu, or any other possible love interest really, would take time.”

In other words, it would take a long time for her to actually realize she has feelings for Natsu, and even then she might not be ready.

And THAT is what I think happened in this chapter.

So, let’s take a look at this.

First thing, is the hug.

This is a long hug. This one is long. And Natsu’s not uncomfortable here. He’s not nervous. He’s just looking at Happy because he doesn’t know what to do. Lucy’s crying, and yeah, she says she’s happy, but if she’s happy he wants her to smile, not cry.

So the logical thing for him, would be to tell her something, which he goes to do:

Take a look at his expression here.

He’s serious.

He wants to tell her something serious, and Lucy knows it.

But because of their close proximity…

With how the panels zoom in on her face, Lucy thinks Natsu’s going to kiss her.

And she’s not stopping him.

In the past, we’ve seen her push him away when he gets too close. Whether it’s by kicking him away, or pushing Happy in to take the kiss instead of her, Lucy isn’t shy about pushing someone away or being very loud about personal boundaries.

If Natsu were to have kissed her, she would’ve let him.

But she says wait.

Lucy is not ready.

So what does Natsu do?

He breaks the tension the way he always does.

And Lucy gets mad.

She gets mad that he does this because she’s embarrassed. She thought he was going to kiss her and she was hopeful about it.

But again, Natsu knows she isn’t ready.

And you know what?

“It’s okay.”

Take a look at the shading on this panel. That shading should tell you everything.

Whenever we see this kind of shading on Natsu, it’s when he’s serious. He’s serious about something he’s saying, he’s serious about beating an enemy and protecting is friends. He gets like this when he’s serious.

And he’s serious about letting Lucy know that it’s okay. He knows she’s not ready and he’s okay with it.

Because…

He’s not going anywhere.

She has all the time in the world with him to be ready. He won’t treat her any differently. He’ll be here for her in any way she wants him to be.

And if one day she’s ready, then so be it.

But he doesn’t need that from her. He never has.

So to me? NaLu is canon.

Lucy just isn’t ready for it yet, and Natsu cares deeply enough for her that he’ll respect that fact. He’ll respect that she isn’t ready, even if she’d let him kiss her.

Now, with this post, I am NOT justifying the bad things that Larcade did, but hear me out just for a sec,

Larcade was created by Zeref, just like all of the other demons in the book of Zeref.  They all have one motive and that’s to kill.  Now, I know that they are *bad*, but they can’t do anything about that, that is how they were programmed.  They aren’t human, they are just puppets used by Zeref and they are at his disposal, he does not care.

For the entirety of Larcade’s “life”, Zeref told him that he was his father, he WAS Larcade DRAGNEEL.  That is all that this guy knew besides “kill whatever ‘Father’ tells me to”.  

So, my point is, I feel so incredibly bad for this demon/boy/guy that I can’t really hate him.  His magic was gross/over exaggerated- Zeref made it.  He wanted to kill Natsu- Zeref made him do it.  He wanted to please his “father” so badly, and all he got in return was being completely abused by this so called “father”.  I think because Larcade was so close to being who Natsu MIGHT have been, and that he is so in tune with human emotions (aka his magic), he has emotions for himself.  You can see it on his face, he is HEARTBROKEN by how Zeref is suddenly treating him, and he despises Natsu because Zeref only cares about him.

You were too pure for this world…

There’s that poster of Zeref right above him. 

  And it looks like Rahkeid is looking at him…..
