"If not, try a bike. I like them.”

“I have to shop as well. The only black tie thing I own is one suit and I use that for funerals. Not exactly something you want to turn up to a fundraiser in.”

"We’ve had a lot of people in early to make sure this place looks good. People are paying to get in and paying more for the other stuff. Had to make sure that it looked good.”

“That’s what I was hoping for.”

“In this town there is always something. You could have stayed at home or done something else.”

Daniel turned to see his date to the evening and took a step back, blown away by the elegance and beauty he was looking at. “I think it best. It wont be long before everyone here will be offering to buy you a drink.”

“Keep an eye out as you walk through town, I’ve seen some cars with for sale signs on the windows and the prices are pretty decent.”

Daniel was a little entertained by her surprise and put a charming but humble smile on his face upon seeing her reaction to his proposition. It was more forward than what he usually was. “Really,” Daniel answered with a light and easy chuckle escaping from his lips. “It’s their loss and my gain. The fundraiser should be interesting. Stilinski has already asked if I can take part in the doughnut eating contest.”

Lauren felt like she was in another person’s body or as if she was living someone else’s life. This wasn’t her on a day to day lifestyle and she certainly had never imagined herself going to something this formal, much less wear anything like what she was wearing. It was her Cinderella and she had her fairy godmother Katie to thank for that. Lauren had fallen in love with it when they had gone out shopping for the event, but the price tag was beyond what she could afford at the time. She was beyond shocked to find the same dress on her bed only hours before the event started. Clearly, Katie had done some stealth shopping of her own for her not to notice her buying it sooner. 

Even though Daniel wasn’t the most sociable of people he was actually looking forward to this event and not even because his station was massively underfunded or that people needed to see their deputies and Sheriff outside of the station and come together as a community.  For once he even dressed up in a suit which he hadn’t done in a long time.

“Have you tried getting a used one? They are normally cheaper.”

!You could always do an online course or even community college.” It was a small idea and something that she could use if she wanted. “I wasn’t the college type but I still did it. Just had to get through it to get the job I wanted. Did you hear about the fundraiser we are having? If you have no one to go with, I wouldn’t mind accompanying you.”

With the gun away Daniel stepped closer to the property but only a few steps. The ice may have cracked a little but that did not mean it was broken. He nodded at her reply. “I thought the same thing when I transferred over. I’ve not long been in this town myself and I saw the mess it has. Katie. Got that. Are you hoping to be a deputy or something similar?”

"If that’s the case then just buy a new one.”

“I’m not anyone,” he remarked stepping forward just one step. He waited for her to look over his badge but didn’t move any further than he had already done. She had the gun and even though he had one he didn’t want to pull it out and make this thing a stand off. “I tend to keep to myself. I take it you aren’t a regular in the cells but work there? I’m Daniel, a deputy.”

"I was always out in the open, you just didn’t care to look. I’ve been evaluating things. What are you doing slithering around here?”
