βlook, you know how i am and i told you, itβs rude!β damien fought and laughed softly. and they both knew that damien was like that, and that was fine. it was just who damien was.Β βand youβre gonna love what i brought anyway, so a thank you would be great.β damien teased playfully. after all, michael told him not to bring it, so there was no need for him to thank him for something he didnβt ask for.Β βnervous? why? i thought this was a delicacy? so clearly, itβs been made a time or twenty.β he said and chuckled.Β βso you know what youβre doing obviously.β he said and then took another bite of his food. this was definitely one for the books. it was something that heβd never experienced before, but leave it to michael to change his perspective on something. when michael mentioned the time frame that had passed with them being apart, damien rose a brow and then said,Β βa year? really?β as if he didnβt fucking know. damien remembered the day michael left vividly, it was one of the worst days of his life if he had to tell the truth. then dan came up, and hearing that michael had broken up with him, his first concern was obviously michael.Β βare you okay?β he asked.
michael just laughed softly as the man told him to say thank you, in that fucking daddy tone of his, even though he was joking.Β βthank you,β he replied reluctantly, rolling his eyes. he knew the cake would be good, though, so he really wasnβt mad about it. michael was used to damien being a giver.Β βcause fuckinβ oliver said you wouldnβt want to eat this, and that i should make something else. but i always do the opposite of what he tells me to, itβs always the best advice,β he explained.Β βmhmm.β he could feel himself getting teary eyed, so he wiped his eyes quickly and sipped on his wine again. he hated thinking of the day he left, and even the good days that came after that felt sour in hindsight. heβd thought about damien every single day heβd been gone, whether just for a split second or carrying him in his mind 24/7.Β βiβm okay,β he assured him, feeling his heart flutter by the manβs first response being to check how he felt. leave it to michael to romanticize the bare minimum.Β βit was a long time coming. which i know sounds absurd when i wasnβt even with him for that long, but, i donβt know. but iβd heard that love takes time, and it takes patience, so i felt like i had to stay with him til it got good. kinda like planting a little fruit tree, and you like, water it, and wait for fucking ever for it to grow fruit. but he was a pear tree, and i wanted a fucking apple. yβknow what i mean? all the patience in the world wasnβt gonna make him good for me.β it was a dumb analogy, but it made sense to him.Β βalso, my pear tree was a bit psycho.β
