Petra is obviously in love with Levi.
aside from knowing how he actually treats others,

heck, she even wrote to her father to subtly say that she wants to get married to Levi. why not? the man she respects - not just because of his reputation as humanityās strongest, but because sheās seen his more humane side - respects her back.
and itās seen in little moments like Petra having the confidence to approach an agitated Levi because he allows her to.
how it all turned out. I knew right from the start that SnK would kill anyone regardless of how important they may seem, because thatās just the cruel reality of their universe.
but for Levi to find Petraās corpse last - even if she didnāt die last and therefore wasnāt the farthest
and for him to actually stop for a moment to grieve instead of immediately going after the Female Titan just hit me so hard. because heād slowly passed by his other squad memberās corpses, it created the atmosphere of Levi maybe having possible thoughts of āmaybe she isnāt dead yetā to āeven she had died.ā
another painful thing here was that Levi was with Petra during their comradeās dying moments, where Levi was assuring that the soldier hadnāt died in vain and heāll live on and fight with his spirit. and then Petra assured Levi that, even if the soldier died before his speech ended, he wouldāve heard all of that.
now, how the tables were turned. because Petra is now the dead body, and Levi had to cling on to something to remember her - and his whole squad - by, to comfort himself and assure that she and the others did not die in vain.

Levi had been riding alongside the last wagon despite being one of the higher-ups, because it carries Petraās body. and just what luck that they had to sacrifice these bodies - Petra included - to save everyone.
and that expression. how he didnāt look away at all, which could translate how he wants to go after her. damn.
and lastly, he had to give away Petraās badge - the only physical memento he has that represents his whole squad, and Petra as a soldier - just to comfort the soldier who felt bad for accidentally luring the Titans to them. because Levi understands how it feels to lose people dear to him, and heād be willing to sacrifice his own comfort to let others live more peacefully.
Rivetra is ultimately a big what-if. we never got to know if itās unrequited or mutual, but you also canāt deny that, romantically or not, Levi was fond of Petra too. and Rivetra would just always hold a special place in my heart.
