i know most of you aren’t here because you’re like ‘wow, pixie is a really insightful person with a lot of wisdom to share,’ BUT… i want to share something i’ve learned over the past year of my life.
it started when i least expected it.
i’ll be totally honest (and this is not something i’ve outright shared before), i found myself in morty because of my relationship with my mom. i know, if you’ve read my fics (not a self promo), this might not be news to you.
it’s not just his relationship with beth i see me and my mom in. in fact, it’s his relationship with rick.
following rick means trusting that the ‘wrong’ thing at face value means the ‘right’ thing in the long run. for so long, i felt like i was my mom’s little minion— and at the same time i was the only one saying, ‘hey, this is wrong.’
my mom made me an accomplice in her dysfunction while also parentifying me.
‘look after your younger siblings while also having my back in their abuse.’
that’s not even touching on my own.
trusting my mom meant trusting the ‘wrong’ thing at face value, because the ‘right’ thing was avoiding further meltdowns and crash outs on her part. i was protecting them by saying, ‘just do what she wants now and it’ll be over sooner; it’ll be better later.’
i normally don’t get this personal on here. i mean, what i’ve been through is no one’s business… but, after a while, you kind of get used to people knowing your business.
no one else is going to fill that void, broh.
not a fictional character. not that cool person you met the other day. not your significant other.
you have to be you on your own.
i know, it suckssssss. you were raised to have that person telling you who you are, what you think, what to do, that you’re wrong.
you’re not wrong. you’re different, and that’s pretty rad, dude. figure out who that is. do the right thing.
