          he  looks  like  shit—  he  FEELS  like  shit.   there’s  blood  soaked through  his  uniform  shirt  and  everything  in  the  room  they’re  stuck  in  is  blurry,  the  pain  in  his  side  building  and  building  and  building.   james  is  straddling  his  leg,  eyes  focused  on  the  jagged  hole  above  his  hip,  thread  held  between  pursed  lips  as  he  pushes  and  tugs  a  suture  needle  through  his  skin.   he’d  made  a  joke  about  boy  scouts  and  always  being  prepared—  bucky  hadn’t  laughed.

     things  had  been…  different  between  them,  since  james  had  grabbed  his  ass—-  not  BAD  different,  just…  different.   clint  had  stopped  calling  him  ‘bucky’  as  much,  and  he  didn’t  even  know  why,  it  felt  better.   and  in  return,  james  had  been  more  serious—  REAL—  with  him.   he  didn’t  treat  clint  like  everyone  else  did.

     clint  had  panicked  when  they  ran  in  here,  hanging  on  to  bucky  and  bleeding,  the  door  locking  behind  them.   the  other  assassin  had  just  hushed  him  and  sat  him  down,  told  him  to  RELAX  and  not  getting  upset  when  clint  COULDN’T.   it  made  him  feel  warm  inside,  despite  the  cold  seeping  in  from  blood  loss.

     “  there—  ”   james’  voice  rings  loud  in  the  otherwise  quiet  room,  drawing  clint’s  attention  down  to  the  now  stitched  up  wound  on  his  side.   he  sighs  softly,  bringing  his  hand  up  to  pat  bucky’s  cheek  almost  -  lovingly,  leaving  bloody  fingerprints  behind.

     “  shit,  ‘m  sorry,  ”   he  says  with  a  giggle  that  hurts  more  than  anything,  and  the  man  laughs  with  him,  metal  hand  coming  up  to  swipe  over  his  forehead,  leaving  a  tacky  stripe  in  it’s  way,  whispering  out  ‘simba’.   blue  eyes  ROLL,  almost  all  the  way  back,   “  i  never  should  have  shown  you  the  lion  king,  i  knew  i’d  regret  it—  ”

     bucky  leans  in  instead  of  responding  but  clint  meets  him  first,  even  if  it  sends  pain  shooting  up  his  side,  hands  reaching  up  to  grab  his  face  gently.    he  tastes  blood  when  their  lips  meet,  but  he’s  had  worse  tasting  kisses,  if  he’s  being  honest,  and  he  smiles  when  he  feels  james  kiss  back,  thanking  whatever  is  keeping  him  alive  that  he’s  not  delusional.   or  maybe  he  is  and  this  is  some  fever  dream  as  a  result  of  blood  loss  and  excruciating  pain—  which,  best  dream  EVER,  if  so.

     now  they  just  needed  to  figure  out  the  safest  way  out—  after  a  couple  more  kisses.
