Haunted Tapes

[A loud, high pitched scream can be heard]

"Oh what the fuck was that!?"

"Did, did one of you press play?"

"Nope, I was keeping an eye on it, the thing turned on by itself."

"Oh, haha, don't like that!"

"Maybe we should give it back to artefact storage."

"Yeah, sounds good."

[the tape turns off for a few seconds before clicking back on]

"Uh, Sasha? I thought you gave it back?"

"I did, why- Oh fuck that."

[the whirr of a cassette tape playing can be heard as several voices grow steadily closer]

"This place is a complete mess. How the hell did anyone get anything done?"

"You're being dramatic, it's one closet."

"Guys, can we please find those files before Jon gets mad at us?"

"Yeah, yeah-"

[there's several seconds of silence]

"Tim?"

"Hey Sasha, didn't you say you put both the cassette player and recorder in the main office?"

"Yeah, why?"

"There's another pair in here."

"What? Did one of you misplace them?"

[as the two voices start a muffled disagreement, footsteps get closer]

"These aren't ours."

"What? What do you mean Martin?"

"There's a note, 'gift for the archive.' Someone else put these here."

"Oh, maybe it was Sonja, I did tell her we needed them. Oh well, it can't hurt to have two sets."

"There's also already a tape inside the player."

"Wait seriously? Play it."

"What? No, we need to get those files to Jon!"

"Boys! Just leave it, we can play the tape later."

[a door clicks shut and the voices go away]

*moments later*

[the tape begins to crackle with static]

"You're not one of mine."
