Last year I made this hexagon arbor for @nicholehaunphotography to use during photo shoots. About 6 feet tall and 7 feet wide. It’s lightweight (I can carry it myself) but also strong (I can hang from it) I used @festool_usa dominos and @titebondproducts glue for construction. Yesterday I thought Mark how to turn as he worked on his first lathe project. Turning bottle stoppers and honey dippers from @stainlessbottlestoppers. We used spray lacquer for the spectraply blanks and @yorkshiregrit and @hampshiresheen supplied by @thewalnutlogstudio for the solid wood blanks. Mark contacted me to commission some cutting boards to give as give. After we talked about it, I learned he wanted to be part of the process. Mark came to The Workshop and signed up for a membership, went through the safety course with Tim and was ready to begin. We decided to make 4; 3 as gifts and one for Mark to keep. Mark designed the custom CNC router pattern that was then filled with epoxy and selected the wood: walnut, elm, and holly. I had the pleasure of photographing a recreation of the Gentlemen’s Tool Chest by Rick Long. Originally patented in 1895 by Hammacher and Schlemmer in New York. It was designed to give access to tools and a workbench in an apartment setting in the city while looking like a piece of furniture. Sometimes you have to embrace mistakes. I was installing rubber bumpers on the bottom of a charcuterie board and on the last one, the screw snapped! [insert expletive of choice] I filed down the broken screw and installed a replacement next to the mistake so it would be fully visible. All my products are made with my hands.
