Hello and welcome to Hatstand Blogging. After years of thinking about doing a blog, I’ve finally started one, so we shall see how this goes. HE DID THE THING!!
Gavan Infinity was a damn good show, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I really vibed with the show. Gavan Infinity was just such a fun, upbeat show. To be honest, I ended up enjoying and looking forward to it more than Zeztz. Yeah, it had some issues, a clear lack of budget being one of those things, but they only made me appreciate its charm more. I would have watched 50 episodes of Reji and the gang going on multiverse adventures, and it's a crime that we only got 23. I don't think the story was as bad as people claim it to be, but I was surprised that the show committed to keeping the Gavans apart until the last few episodes. The costumes were great, as was the music. The story, like the theme, showed that love truly is the strongest. One thing that it definitely has over Zeztz is the female characters who did way more than ones in Zeztz have and probably will if we're being honest. Kiki and her episodes were also among the best of the show, and, on the whole, better than Setsuna's. It's also a damn shame that Gavan Infinity seemingly didn't get the level of following here and elsewhere compared to Zeztz. While it is understandable, it is still a shame. If you haven't watched Gavan Infinity, I would highly recommend it. It's a nice, easy watch and great fun too.

It's very very good, but it doesn't stick the ending...which also catapulted me from being "meh" on Jayvik to full flaming fury hatred of the ship, and of Jayce in general. What an awful, awful person. Mel doesn't deserve to be saddled with his self-centered, accountability-dodging ass, either.
So many shows don't seem to be able to stick the ending... It's been a long time since I saw one.
My partner (LoL lore nerd, yes they exist), had warned me that Riot Games has a way of introducing a lot of revolutionary themes in their storytelling and then whimping out on following through. Well.......Arcane introduced a lot of revolutionary themes, developed them beautifully, and then..........
Look, the point is, it was a fantastic story until the end, the animation was beautiful throughout, Zaun rules Piltover drools, and Jayce sucks ass. Don't tell people that Fantasy Cancer is a flaw to embrace, especially after you bulldozed their bodily autonomy against their explicit wishes.
As someone who does/did dabble in LoL lore, the more I hear about Arcane season 2 makes me want to watch even less, and I already resolved not to after I saw the Viktor redesign.
The Fall of the Eldar and the Birth of Slaanesh
As part of my Dark Eldar 5th ed write-up, which is coming along well, I was going to talk about the fall of the Eldar, as it's an important part of the lore and ties into a broader discussion I have about it. I felt it was also worthwhile to talk about Slaneesh as these events are interwined, but that's a bit out of scope, so a separate post it is. To get straight to the point, the Fall of the Eldar did not happen because the Eldar fucked too much, and it's infuriating that such an interesting concept has become a shitty, immature meme. I rue the day that, presumably, some bozo on tg came up with it, and that TTS and other 40k YouTubers, along with Reddit, have popularised it. The Eldar Empire became so powerful that the Eldar could literally do anything they wanted. The eldar could ‘quench stars at a whim’, and that ‘hard work was a distant memory’. Now being a race of powerful pyskers who are able to feel such intense emotions cults of excess starting cropping up chasing greater sensations. To say they just had a lot of sex also shows a lack of imagination.
These cults started pursuing greater and greater decadence, and some moved to the Webway to create whole sub-realms devoted to these pursuits. Now we all know what happened next. This reached critical mass, and Slaneesh was born. Now, as a Craftworld Eldar fan, what really grinds my gears is that when the fall is talked about, I’ve seen people pin the blame on the Craftworlds. It's clearly stated in this codex and elsewhere that the descendants of the craftworlds left before things got bad, while the descendants of the Dark Eldar kept on keeping on. So claiming it's the craftworlds fault is not only flat out wrong, but in complete opposition to the lore.
In fact, the codex explicitly states that right after the fall, the Eldar in the webway, kept safe from the destruction, did not stop even for a moment, as ‘repentance and atonement were outmoded concepts for those who had acknowledged no limits to their power.’ To borrow the phrase, the Dark Eldar laughed as the Eldar Empire burned. However, being in the webway did not shelter them completely, as even in the webway Slaneesh’s touch tugs at there soul, which is why they have the soul thirst.
Now, what does this have to do with Slaanesh? Much like the event that created them Slaanesh is more than just the sex god and yet this is what I often see them reduced to.
Lust is certainly part of their domains, but people hyperfocus on this when there is a great deal more to pleasure and sensation. The Black Crusade TTRPG expansion, the Book of Excess, is great because it explores these aspects in greater detail. More recently, Age of Sigmar released an evil gourmand model as well (Glutos Orscollion if you want to look them up).
Slaanesh is a god of obsession and perfection, constantly pushing boundaries and finding that next level of extreme sensation. Slaanesh is a god that wants you to flay yourself so there can be no barrier to sensation.
Merely having sex isn’t going to cut it, and this goes for the gamut of sensations and pleasures out there. Slaanesh doesn’t do“justs” when you can do the same thing in the most horrifically extra manner possible. Why just drink wine when you can drink the distilled last breaths of suffocated virgins?
Why just kill someone when you can inhale their bloody mist?
The true extent of the excesses and obsessions of the fall and Slaanesh is above and beyond what most people consider and what GW can realistically depict. I’ve attached some more excerpts below, along with the entry for slow-roasted geneseed. Not even the weridest thing in the book.

Arco-flagellant
It's bad enough that this Cadian Kill Team stole the role of a potential Catachan Kill Team, but now they're up for pre-order next week, but The Red Terror (which shared a release box with them) is nowhere to be seen.
Between the Kasrkin and the Brood Brothers kits, Cadians are well covered on the Kill Team front. Not to mention the huge range refresh they got not too long ago.
And now Cadians get ANOTHER kit.
Meanwhile, Catachan has been stuck with this since 3rd edition; I used to have a Catachan Guard Army with these models when I was like, 17 years old... I'm 44 now!
Get a load at how poorly the lasgun bit lines up with the weapon's stock; this screenshot is from the GW webstore. You can look it up yourself. Not even the professionals can assemble this kit without issues.
The Lasguns come separate to the arms, and whole; you have to cut off the Lasgun's stock and pistol-grip so that it can be replaced by the stock/pistol-grip sculpted on the arm/hand. With no indentations sculpted into the flakk jacket on the torso to accommodate the Lasgun, you're hard pressed to get it to line up straight.
That's how it was done back in the late 90's/early 2000's; we just had to raw-dog it and modify the kit, right out of the box to make it work.
And if you want Catachans, you still do; at a cost of 60 bucks for the privilege.
Look! They're so embarrassed by this old kit, that the model they show in the thumbnail on the app is from the Command Squad (which came out a few years later).
Good luck building a Guard Infantry squad using the Catachan Command Squad kit lol.
A Kill Team set where a squad of Guardsmen go up against a big Tyranid gribley would have been the perfect opportunity to release a Catachan Devils Kill Team/Catachan Jungle Fighters Infantry Squad, duel kit.
And they BOTCHED it.
So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.

Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!

The most significant lesson I ever received in Literature classes was that everything is actually about abortion.
My regular teacher was out for the day, so the “this guy works here but nobody quite knows what he’s supposed to do” substitute was in for her. His name was Mr. Moony. I suspect, knowing more now, that Mr. Moony was the special education coordinator for gifted and talented students. But that’s all besides the point.
The only thing that mattered about Mr. Moony for this story is that every student knew you never learned anything when he was in, because he was always batshit insane. He would completely disregard plans, throw them away, and tell us to do something different.
When he came in, we had just finished reading Waiting for Godot. We were well on our way to an AP Lit exam, tired and worried, and we had a practice essay coming up based on this play. And he said, “you’re all burnt the hell out, so I’m going to write an essay for you.” We all cheered because, hell yes, a lecture day. We didn’t have to do shit. We could all tune out and stop caring.
And then he started going.
We were enraptured. This man deconstructed the two act play into a masterpiece, quoting ancient literature on theology and God, as well as personal details about the author, to reveal to us all that, actually, Waiting for Godot was the author’s roundabout way to show the anguish behind the politics of the pro-life/anti-choice movements, and the author’s criticisms of abortion.
He went on for a half hour, writing faster than we could really keep up with. By the end of his rant, we were all nodding along. At the end, he slammed his hand on the board and shouted “ABORTION” to really make his point.
“So, do you all think that’s what this story is about?”
The majority of us nodded, myself included. And this man looked at us, scrunched his face like Kermit the Fucking Frog, and went, “no the fuck it’s not. I made all that up.”
There was a beat of everyone feeling like their time was wasted. Some students very frustrated because they were trying to take notes and just realized it all was fabricated. One or two who were angry about being woken up to him shouting abortion.
And then he looked at us. “How many of you only believe it’s about abortion because that’s what I just told you to think?”
Quite a few raised their hands.
“Then I did English good.”
The rest of the time of class was spent with him teaching us various styles of analysis, though sadly my amnesia has claimed most of this part from me. I remember my belief in English being entirely shaken at this point. But at the same time, I also got what he was saying, and it opened my eyes to new things.
There is no right answer in literary analysis. There’s just answers people want to hear, or answers that are compelling, or answers that aren’t those things. The answer that Waiting for Godot was about abortion was not something all of us wanted to hear, but he made the answer sound compelling — and so we were riveted.
My next essay I wrote for that class was about the setting of the play, and how the entirety of Waiting for Godot centers on the anxieties of losing the modern family — and even modern life as we know it — to technology, and via that idea, the climate crisis.
I got a 100%. My teacher highlighted my (thankfully anonymous to the class) essay, particularly because the first sentence was “compelling,” due to my absence of proper grammar rules; I’d started it off by just saying, “trees.”
That was the day I really knew I loved English — not just enjoyed reading and writing, but genuine love of playing with the language. And it’s this love that I try to instill into my students.
