MODERATED ARTIST'S TALK for Katharina

A remote opera installation in public space by Mathis Nitschke, featuring Martina Koppelstetter (September, 2016)

The travel agency – a place of longing for faraway places – is transformed through this music-theatrical performance into a zone with a sharp focus on the here and now. Using headphones you slip into Katharina’s head and occupy the aural perspective of the protagonist outside of the square. At the same time, as an object in the shop window, you become part of the installation yourself.

"Opera for the Masses *with Urs Schönebaum" at RM Base, Munich (May, 2016)

INVITATION TEXT: No worries, we are not going to stage neither operas nor show recordings of stage productions. We are rather inviting you to attend an archeological journey of film operas (or operas made for cinema or TV) - a genre which is treated as a step child by the opera and film audience. The excavation area is our global online memory (the video sharing websites) which permanently or temporarily (with)hold film operas of quality and insights appealing to film, opera and visual arts audiences, and their respective standards. Over a period of twelve sessions (three weeks, Wed - Sat) we invite you to watch film operas that are available online that you could watch on your PC or even Smartphone. So, why should you come by? 1) At the opening reception the screening program will be presented (incl. showing trailers) 2) At the opening reception we will unveil the permanent (light & video) installation by Urs Schönebaum which is a reminiscence of the world premiere of an (stage) opera he directed in Montpeiller, 2014. 3) Films will be shown on large screen and every film/opera will be introduced before the screening starts. Afterwards, you are invited to engage in discussions about opera, film etc. 4) At the closing reception a lecture will be given presenting short sequeces from 30 film operas, discussing cinematographic twists and innovations that opera makers and (film) directors came up with.

CURATORIAL TEXT: The exhibition aims at discussing the future of opera in the age of mass media (and its inevitable impact on the genre) believing in its potential as a great source of inspiration for the visual arts and film. The excavation area is our global online memory (the video sharing websites) which permanently or temporarily (with)hold screen operas (operas made [or specifically adapted] for cinema or TV) of quality and insights appealing to film, opera and visual arts audiences, and their respective standards. In the white cube turned cinema a permanent installation by URS SCHÖNEBAUM charges the space.

A plethora of both figurative and abstract depictions – puppets, shamans and chimeras. Symbolism and connotations for both the conscious and the subconscious. The exhibition shows that Mela Feigenbaum‘s insights speak for the Millenial Generation.

An exhibition arranged for Klaus Lemke’s docu-fiction „Unterwäschelügen“, premiering at Filmfest Munich on June, 29, 2016, where Mela Feigenbaum features as the main character. “Le Bal Trans” exhibits documentation of artworks which were shown in a previous exhibition. This exhibition/documentation itself is documented by the film.
