So honestly with Asuka's birthday coming up + the talk of Kyo remembering Asuka's birthday. I'm gonna share a personal headcanon.
Kyo knowing Asuka's birthday does feel to me like a hint to their relationship cause I feel like Asuka is not someone who celebrates his birthday much. 😅

But speaking honestly, Asuka does seem like the sort to do everything he can to celebrate someone's birthday (especially if he cares deeply for them and wants to make sure they know that)
But when it comes to his own birthday...he has a tendency to forget.
It's just another Tuesday to him. He's got a work shift that day that he can't really change but that's okay.
Pretty much after their parents were arrested, Asuka likely did not have that free time to remember anymore because of all that was happening and if not for Tomoro, he probably would end up forgetting that his birthday is coming up.
(Asuka however has likely still worked on his birthdays regardless of being reminded)
(I do also think his 18th and 21st and any coming of age events were skipped by Asuka, unintentionally and intentionally)
Tomoro hates this, especially when he knows and can tell that Asuka specifically takes time off work to celebrate Tomoro's birthday if he can but doesn't even think for a second to do the same for his own day.
(Tomoro has to use his own money to buy a cake for Asuka even though it's money Asuka gave him to spend for himself)
Kyo on the other hand, likely found out about Asuka's birthday cause the guy casually mentioned that it already happened.
Oh but it's okay, don't feel bad Kyo, He had a 12 hour work shift so it just came and went. 🙂
(Mind you, once Asuka learned about Kyo's birthday thanks to Cougarmon, Asuka went out of his way to get a cake for Kyo and celebrate it with him and Asuka wants to make up for all the times Kyo never had anyone to celebrate his birthday)
Yes, while Kyo may need reminding sometimes (thankyou cougarmon) since Asuka has been also making sure to do something nice for his birthday (like getting him a cake) Kyo feels the need to make sure Asuka gets the same treatment.
Even if Asuka doesn't think it's a special thing or that he needs to do something for it.
