It is 2024. I am twenty-four. I am watching The Bad Batch in my apartment on my own. The clones are fighting on Teth. This hurts.

We’re never given any indication in canon that the Jedi forced parents to give up their children or that they had a legal right to just take them–if that were so, Qui-Gon would have just taken Anakin off Tatooine instead of the huge complicated plot that was the movie’s story–not even if the parents are sad to see them go, we never see that it’s forced, but we are given direct confirmation that, when a planet protested, the Jedi stopped going there.  When they were told “no”, they respected it. Further, when Cad Bane shows up to kidnap Wee Dunn, he does have to force the situation, by literally hypnotizing the mother.  If the Jedi had the authority to just take the child and it was a known practice, he could have just taken the kid, as she believed he was a Jedi.  Instead, he had to trick her into giving the child up, which shows that, no, the Jedi didn’t just grab a kid and march off with them. We’re shown that the Jedi give the biological families an adjustment period and, I mean, why?  Because they don’t want to be responsible for changing diapers? You’d think the earlier they adopted them, the less they’d remember those biological families, but instead the Jedi give them time, which shows that they respect that biological family connection and know that there needs to be time to adjust before coming to the Jedi Temple to their new family. If they were just going to force the parents to give up the kids, why do they have a list of known Force-sensitive children at all?  As soon as one is identified, go grab the kid and bring them back, no need to go through all the effort of keeping a top-secret list that has a hidden crystal AND can only be read by a Jedi holocron.  They’d have a great excuse–Force-sensitive children in the galaxy are looked at as strange and wrong, they’re kidnapped by bounty hunters to be sold off, being a Jedi means there’s an entire underground market for auctioning them off to do horrible things to.  And yet instead they maintain that list and the children stay with their biological parents because the Jedi do not just forcibly taken children.
