Title: You are not who you were last November
Summary:
to reconstruct - (verb) build or form (something) again after it has been damaged or destroyed.
Volodymyr travels to France in December, for the re-opening ceremony of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Whilst there, something changes between him and Emmanuel.
Chapter 1 (word count: 1,384)
As with so many things in the world, it starts with a phone call. It’s one of many they have shared over the last few years. Sometimes they talk for hours, other times for a few minutes, but they rarely go a day without some sort of communication. Emmanuel still thinks of that first call, what feels like a lifetime ago now - so much has changed since then. It comes back to him in fragments, often.
“Are you in security.. Yourself?”
writing tip #4166:
if you're wondering if you should tone down the angst, that's a sign you should actually increase it
Came across the 2000 word plan I made for that one Notre Dame fic and added some Ideas to it.
something different for ✨ intermittent WIP Wednesday ✨
a handful of lines from different pieces that never made it through the final edit, or from things that just never got published at all, but that I liked enough to keep in my Google drive to look at occasionally.
Emmanuel looked down at the dark head resting against his shoulder and felt a sudden, piercing tenderness.
He is so rarely without words these days. Speeches, messages, statements—language has become a weapon now, a shield, a bridge. Sometimes it is a barrier, and others, a hand in the darkness.
He feels Volodymyr's shaking hands around his elbows, palms pressed against the immaculate material of his suit jacket and suddenly - how ludicrous it all is. The pressed suit, the silk tie, the starched shirt, crumpled beneath the weight of Vova, a burden he is more than happy to hold this time.
“Take my office, Emmanuel! Do it. Sit in this chair, wear this shirt. Watch the world burn through your windows while everyone tells you to be thankful, to be patient-”

100 words from the next chapter of (+380) (+33) while I faff about with the rest of it.
~
The call comes just after midnight.
Emmanuel is alone, still awake despite the hour, a long abandoned cup of tea cooling at his elbow, the faint scent of chamomile and honey drifting through the air. Papers lie open across his desk in the apartment at the Élysée Palace, but he has stopped pretending to read them.
He has been watching the news. Watching the alerts vibrate through his phone, the insistent notifications of an app he is fully aware he does not need, telling him to go to a shelter he is thousands of miles away from.
He sits, and waits.
The phone does not ring. Not yet.
4, 12, 27 and 70?
Love your writing! (As you can tell lol)
Ahh, hi!! Thank you 🥰 it always makes my day so bright when I notice someone making their way through a couple of my works in succession on AO3 - I'm glad you liked 💜💜
4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?
Usually through events that Vova, Emmanuel etc. have attended; so things like summits, meetings, frontline trips. Sometimes it's other little bits and pieces, I read a lot of poetry so I get inspiration from that quite often, or articles, video clips etc.
12. How does receiving or not receiving feedback/support impact you?
Oh man, I adore feedback, I thrive on it tbh- knowing that people have enjoyed the silly little things I post is the most glorious thing & really keeps me motivated to continue tinkering with things. Likes and kudos are gorgeous & if anyone leaves me a comment or reblogs with tags or comments, I'll be sat there giggling, blushing & kicking my feet 🥰
Id probably still write even if I didn't get feedback, but it wouldn't feel the same I don't think? I enjoy sharing my work & seeing what other people think of it, what it made them feel etc. It's just really special 💜
27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
Favourite: ooh. I guess I just love putting my own spin on moments & letting my imagination meander around. When I find the right turn of phrase too, and everything fits together its just 🤌🏻
Least favourite: when I want to write and I have ideas but then I sit down and my brain just…. Won't. That's been happening a lot lately, and it makes me sad.
Also titles. And summaries. And my chronic inability to write chaptered fic.
70. When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
Enthusiastic :)
Thank you for the questions 🫶🏻
trailing the idea around in my head now of the first time Emmanuel sees Vova in a vyshyvanka 🫠

Day 29: Picking up the pieces
He crouches down, palm resting flat against the floor, his heart thumping somewhere in his throat. In the cold clear light of dawn, in this hideous silence, everything feels oddly mundane suddenly - untidy somehow. Papers spread over the desk flutter in the breeze.
He closes his eyes, the sharp bite of glass under his fingers registers somewhere, numbly. He presses harder until something gives.
Later, Maksym finds Volodymyr, still - silent on the floor of his office, blood on his fingertips, glittering fragments spread at his feet. His hair lifts slightly in the breeze from the window and Maksym shivers despite himself.
"Sir- you should-"
“Someone should fix the window.”
His voice is quiet.
Ze's rhetoric lately has been just 🤌🏻 🔥
