never mind
in the calmness of this morning,
i crawled over to you.
to tell you,
“i’ll miss you today.”
your face buried in your phone,
per usual.
but before the words left my mouth,
your body tensed up.
i knew what was next.
“what are you doing?”
your words aren’t warm or inviting
and i get the hint.
“nothing.”
i muster out the words,
turning away before our eyes meet.
“i’m texting my coworker about a ride to work.”
“i just wanted a hug.”
he brings me in
but i no longer want his closeness.
