This is still a developing situation, we don't the full story, we don't know what is going on behind the scenes. This is only what has happened as of 11:40pm tonight (June, 24, 2021).

It all started when earlier tonight at 7:57pm Jensen tweeted a link to a Deadline article announcing that his production company would be doing a Supernatural prequel focusing on John and Mary:

A couple hours later at 10:04pm Jared quote tweeted Jensen saying the he was happy for him but wished he had heard about it from somewhere other than twitter and that he was bummed Sam had no involvement whatsoever:

Of course fans worried about what the hell was going on but we thought it was some weird joke cause surely Jensen had told Jared about this...right? No. A couple minutes after his quote tweet he replied to a fan, saying that it was not a joke that this was the first time he'd heard of the project and he was gutted:

He also tweeted and deleted a heavily worded tweet @ Robbie Thompson who is working as writer and EP on the prequel, implying that he too hadn't told him anything about the project:

They used the implication that Jared and Jensen aren’t friends anymore at least 6 times in The French Mistake. The first time I watched it, I thought they were playing on the whole spoiled, douche actor stereotype and that it was leading to some punchline about Jensen having a bigger trailer or Jared getting top billing. But that never happened- instead they just repeated it over and over. In fact, it’s the last line of the episode. I could never understand the purpose because everyone knows that Jensen and Jared are extremely close in real life. 

When I rewatched it a couple of weeks ago, I finally got it. The title of the episode comes from the scene in the movie Blazing Saddles where the cowboy movie literally breaks through the fourth wall and into the set of a musical called The French Mistake. In an interview, Mel Brooks explained that a “French mistake” is when two supposedly heterosexual men have sex in the heat of the moment and then regret it afterwards. 

Get it? It’s a big J2 joke. In that parallel universe, Jensen and Jared did something they regret and now they don’t talk.

The funny thing about wincest is that it exists simultaneously in this space of we all know it’s never ever actually going to be canon, (because y'know, incest), but it’s also like, 95% canon.

- Do Sam and Dean share a “deep and abiding love for each other”? yup.

- Would they do literally anything for each other? well yeah that’s basically the show.

- Do they live together? Oh yes and Dean even admits to “nesting”

- Are they soulmates? It’s strongly hinted that they are…
