They're not from space, and they wouldn't consider themselves a "lord," but...
Another disturbance in time— from an area of a universe that has never had one.
Perhaps it would be worth investigating when they could afford to.
i updated ebenezer's bio a bit! basically the most important thing to know is that they're a lot more willing to use their powers than they were before. they aren't going to start using them like crazy, but they Will use them occasionally now instead of not at all
Made a post about this already recently but i am Once Again thinking about what it means for someone to be a timekeeper. i think instead of recording history, a timekeeper is actually more like a peacekeeper, and they use their powers to help them do that. for instance, if things started getting violent between two people or were threatening to, a timekeeper would try to put a stop to that. the only issue with this concept is that i don't see this working perfectly with contrary's backstory? because the whole reason she's Crazy is because she spent so long doing an extremely repetitive thing... contrary and ebenezer Are from different universes that aren't exactly the same though, so maybe that's just what it was like for contrary in her universe

thinking some about ebenezer's emotions and their expression of them... I think there's definitely a "limit" to how much ebenezer can Feel and how much they can express that feeling. for example, ebenezer can be happy... but i don't think they can be overjoyed. they can be angry or afraid, but they can't be furious or terrified.
i think this is part of how ebenezer's soul and the grand clock's soul balance out... ebenezer is a human soul with a whole range of different emotions and the grand clock's soul just has Nothing. so when those are put together that's what happens with their emotions
He can do this. Just treat “Ebenezer” like any other patron, and hope everyone else can ignore the way they look like something out of a sci-fi movie and do the same.
Steven casts a quick glance around as he leads Ebenezer to the show stage. Despite his own fears, things seem to be running smoothly. At least he can be somewhat confident that this wasn’t all a distraction and Contrary hadn’t paused time to slip in and destroy everything during their conversation outside.
“Uh… here they are! Our stars!” The shiny Toy trio turns to look at the pair as they approach.
“Normally they wander around greeting people, but…” But there have been a few incidents lately that Steven definitely shouldn’t discuss with a customer. “But they need to get ready for their show, isn’t that right, gang?”
Bonnie stares at him. Chica stares at him.
Freddy, to his credit, leans forward to offer a warm Fazbear greeting to Ebenezer. Thank god they’re not all busted.
Time is intrigued by the animatronics. It tended to be attracted to anything that was mechanical. Ebenezer is also interested in them, but they also want to see everything else Steven mentioned. Since they could agree on the animatronics, that is what they decided to choose first. Making decisions often took more consideration when two souls were involved.
Ebenezer’s expression lights up as soon as they see the machines. One of them even offers a greeting.
“It has said ‘hello’ to us.” Ebenezer whispers to Steven, a controlled happiness in their voice.
“We will watch their show whenever it is available.”
let me stab. yore boyfriend
after like. five times of trying to do it i think rping in groups is just Not for me. on tumblr anyway
Steven almost lets out a strangled laugh, but catches himself just in time. What's the harm in pretending? If, somehow, this really isn't Contrary, then he'll stop making a fool of himself. If it is, then she'll do whatever she wants anyway and it won't matter whether he plays along or not.
"Gotcha. Uh, sorry about that, then. My mistake. Let's just start over, and I won't... make any more assumptions. Okay?"
One bonafide Freddy's experience coming up, you freak.
"Well, then, you're in for a treat! Freddy's is a family restaurant dedicated to fun and fantasy, guaranteed to make your dreams come true!*"
It's easy to slip back into his standard greeting. Relieving, even-- it feels familiar and safe, unlike anything else about this interaction.
"If you'll follow me back inside, um... I can give you a quick tour. Do you want to start with food, games, or the animatronics?"
They blink. "Contrary" seems to be a person who hurts people. And if that is something he knows about Contrary, then he must have seen it first-hand. He could have learned it from someone else, too, but Ebenezer does not think so. If he knows what Contrary looks like, and even mistook them for Ebenezer, then he's most likely interacted with them personally.
Ebenezer wonders what the extent of their hurt looks like.
"That is an intriguing promise." they muse, a slight smile coming to their lips.
"We would enjoy that. We would like... to see the animatronics first."

Some things i'm considering for ebenezer...
i wonder a lot about how the people in ebenezer's world engage with them... of course, they're a very important religious figure, but what does that entail...? do people leave them offerings? are there entire Churches / similar buildings dedicated to them? if someone happens to see them, is it a common/casual thing, or should the person feel like they've been utterly Blessed to have laid eyes on them?
i'm also reconsidering what a timekeeper's job actually is... the original idea was that timekeepers are supposed to record history, but what's the point of that? i feel like that's something that could be left to normal people as well... i also feel like whatever their job is, it should involve use of their powers, because what's the point of them having those if they never use them...
ebenezer concept jank
“…okay. So. You’re Ebenezer, but there are two of you, um. In you. And you’re here at Freddy’s to… eat.”
Steven sighs, adjusting his glasses.
“I know I can’t really stop you from doing anything. But can we at least make a deal that ‘Ebenezer’ isn’t the kind of person who hurts anyone? At least for today?”
Slowly, he offers his hand, his fingers trembling ever so slightly.
“I’m Steven. Welcome to— to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Is this your first time… dining with us?”
“Yes. We would like to.”
Ebenezer’s expression drops at his words. Their mechanical eye does, too— its hands tick to a lower position.
“We do not hurt.” they say, their voice briefly louder than usual. “We are sad that you think this about us.”
They know that he isn’t talking to them— he still thinks that they’re someone else. But they don’t want to be seen that way.
Ebenezer takes his hand, giving it a gentle shake before letting go.
“It is. We have never been here before. We would like to experience it.”
Steven's brow furrows. If this is Contrary, she-- they?-- are pretty committed to this "new identity" bit. Is she just waiting for Steven to start believing her before she laughs and kills him and mocks him for being so gullible?
"That, um. That sounds crazy, you know that, right? I don't even know where you're going with this."
"We did not intend that. It is only the truth."
Ebenezer wonders why he recognizes them, and why he seems convinced that they're someone else. Someone called Contrary. Is it a coincidental misunderstanding, or is there something else at play?
For a moment, they stop time, but only for themselves— it's entirely unnoticeable to anyone else. They close their eye, focusing their senses on the world that they're in. Almost immediately, they can tell that the flow of time in this location had been manipulated before. Traces that only they could sense.
They feel alarmed. But right now, everything was normal.
Ebenezer resumes their time. They will investigate later, when things have calmed down and tensions have lowered.
"What is your name?"
Steven looks at her blankly. This is some sort of new game. Maybe she feels guilty about what she's done (as if), and expects him to pretend that none of it ever happened.
Steven wishes he could strangle her and then himself.
"Oh, hah, my bad!" Steven looks sick. "Eb--Ebenezer, huh? Sorry, what do you mean 'we'? You-- and me?"
Ebenezer looks at him curiously. He seems distressed.
"We apologize for the confusion. We—" they start, placing their hand on their chest, "—refers to us. We are two beings sharing one physical form. One of us is Ebenezer, and the other is Time— the Grand Clock. Although we are two, we prefer to be called Ebenezer."
"Are you alright? Do you require rest?"

“Uhuh, uhuh—“ Steven nods, giving passers-by a strained smile as he drags Contrary out the door.
It’s only once they’re out in the parking lot, a “safe” distance away from the other patrons, that Steven really registers what she said.
“What, you’re going by something else now?” Okay, fine, whatever. Anything to keep “not-Contrary” happy enough that she doesn’t threaten to turn everyone in the building inside out.
“What— what do you want me to call you? Why are you here?”
Ebenezer doesn’t like this. Once they’re outside, they pull their arm out of his grip. But not too harshly.
“We… do not know you. However, you seem to know us. We do not understand. There is something wrong.”
Ebenezer looks towards the building they’ve exited. There’s a subtle clicking sound as their head finishes turning.
“We are Ebenezer. We came here to consume food.”
Steven's been accused of being fake before, all cheerful facades and smiles that don't quite reach his eyes. He's always taken offense to those sorts of comments-- he's plenty genuine, thank you very much!-- but that doesn't mean they're not accurate insults.
The comments have come more frequently lately, though, always out of concern. "You okay, there, Mr. Bell?" "Do you need a break, sir?" "Christ, kid, you look like you haven't slept in days!"
He's done his best to brush them off, giving halfhearted reassurances before burying himself in his work. What else can he do? No one would believe him if he tried to explain. Sometimes he doesn't even believe himself; it's easier to think he's gone insane than acknowledge what he's been through.
But it's hard to sweep recent events under the rug and pretend everything's fine when he looks up during the lunch rush one day to see her standing there again. He feels like he might faint, or maybe just vomit all over the floor like that kid last week who drank three cups of soda in the span of ten minutes. She usually shows up during closing, or on the rare occasion that Steve covers night shift. But she's clearly grown bored of tormenting him one-on-one; now she's here to hurt an entire restaurant full of innocent people.
He meets her gaze from across the room, tears immediately starting to gather in the corners of his eyes. He has to do something. There are children here, and despite Freddy's reputation, Steven doesn't want to be directly responsible for their deaths.
"Hey, wow! There you are, Contrary!" he says shakily, striding over to her to grab her by the arm. "What a-- what a surprise! How about we head outside to talk, I can barely hear myself think in here!"
Cue canned laughter. Please, please let him do this.

Ebenezer has not had much exposure to the experience of restaurants. They've tried stealthily dining in at restaurants in their own world a few times, hood over their head, but as soon as people realized that cloaked figure was them, things went in a direction they did not enjoy.
So, they'll go somewhere else.
Usually, Ebenezer gravitates towards quieter places, but they want to try something new this time. It's loud, with the sounds of children and music. Their fingers brush over their hood as they wait to be attended to.
Someone comes over to them quickly and reaches for their organic arm. Ebenezer almost blinks away from his grasp with their subconscious overwhelm, but they decide not to. They can handle this.
"We are not called by that name. You are mistaken." they begin, but he's already pulling them somewhere. Clearly, he's mistaken them for someone else. It's an unfortunate coincidence.
