Look at these paintings and tell me that Markus was perfectly happy being Carl's Android. That he didn't understand that despite how nicely Carl treated him, like a son, that he didn't really have a life or a choice. That he wasn't a slave.

And this is before he's shot merely for being an Android and discarded like rubbish.

Even if Carl was a perfect owner -- which is impossible, because owning someone is reprehensible -- Markus is accosted three times in ten minutes for the high crime of going out in public. And he stays blank-faced through all of it, because he must. You see the anger inside of him at his mistreatment for only a moment, when Carl asks him what’s wrong with his clothes:

How long has Markus been with Carl? It's often stated that Markus has been with Carl for up to ten years. How often did Markus go out for shopping trips in that time? How many times has that resulted in Markus bring pushed around and treated like dirt?

Most likely a lot. His dismissal of his treatment, 'they just pushed me around' speaks volumes. This hasn't just happened before, its happened often enough that Markus has learned to just brush it off as an ordinary occurrence in front of Carl. But he very clearly has feelings about it.

But I also like the idea of Connor being confidently incorrect. Considering AI these days there is so much information that is straight up wrong.

Imagine asking Connor with the scenario below and him answering with complete confidence:
