Morning Light on the Spiral Staircase

Some photographs are about a place. Others are about a feeling.
This one was never really about the staircase.
It was the way the morning light drifted across the room, turning iron railings into shadows and making old stone, timber and plaster feel quietly connected. Nothing was demanding attention. It was simply a moment that seemed content to exist exactly as it was.
I often find myself lingering in places like this before heading outside again. The landscapes may be what draw us somewhere, but it’s the lived-in corners, worn surfaces and changing light that often tell the more interesting story
