âI really love Hayden⌠So much has happened in our lives. I realized that this is an important person in my life.â Another interview with Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and director DĂŠborah Chow for @VanityFair.
âThese characters love each other like brothers. Thatâs why the fight on Mustafar is so tragic, you understand that relationship and their history. You are watching these brothers fight to the death. There is a continuation of that emotional feeling that leads to this story.â
âIt was so brilliant and easy to do all these things with Hayden, because weâve been through so much together. We were in Australia, a lot of people donât know this, but we shot Episodes II and III on soundstages in Sydney.
We were far away, on the other side of the world. I was very young and I was away from home for a while.â
âI really love Hayden. And I never fought him, but I hadnât seen him in a long time. From time to time I would hear that someone had seen it, and we rarely kept in touch.â
âEwan and I have a special bond, definitely because of the time we spent together in the prequels, and also because of the characters we play and their relationship.â
Ewan comments on a day when he ran into Hayden after years later at an autograph session: âAs I was leaving, [Hayden] came in. I hadnât seen him in 12 years or so. It was beautiful to see.â
Still on the unexpected reunion between Ewan and Hayden, Ewan comments, âIt was hard to sum it up. Because so much had happened to us in our lives. I realized that [Hayden] was an important person right in front of me, an important person in my life.â
Ewan and Hayden talk about the day they met at Ocean Avenue Park in Santa Monica. âWe had our COVID masks and baseball caps,â says Christensen.
âThe two of us havenât really dated in years and years. We were outdoors and it was the height of COVID, so we were masked. I could only see his eyes, but he was so big. It was like no time had passed between us,â says McGregor.
âWe ended up knowing what was going on in each otherâs lives, it was really nice to reconnect with my friend, who I love so much. That was one of the blessings of this project. It brought us together again. And that is a beautiful thing,â adds Christensen.
