having motion being warped and looped like this creates a very other wordly sense to the image. It's video like in nature but composed of photographs and lacks sound so it is almost a hybrid of the two. it slows motion and creates an inception sort of quality to the images portrayed that is useful depending on the subject and background.

moving imagery vs still imagery is an entire different world - as you can now incorporate actual motion, sound, and movement. it has the power to give the viewer more information, but some video artists, such as Nam June Paik, use glitching, and distortion to create a barrier that skewes the footage and requires more interpretation from the viewer, even though there is technically more sensory information. Nam June Paik is known as the father of video art and create pieces that revolutionized the entire meaning and genre of video art. he conveys through his work a sense of belonging, how it feels to be an immigrant to America, and his unique perception of places. his piece Electronic SuperHighway in particular speaks on stereotypes or ideas of different states in the US that Paik then fed into video form using over 50 television sets. this piece in particular speaks to the power of video art, as trying to do this same project with just photographs would have been entirely different and devoid of the eery yet enticing appeal of the piece. video art can definitely change the meaning of art, as it provides a way for more tools and sensory stimulation to be used to convey a message.

I wanted to create a video that spoke to the passage of time via memory. how our memories become small snippets of events we remember, and that we are rooted in our daily reality. the clips of my memories switch continuously back to a clip of cars moving on a highway. this is meant to symbolize how we flip through memories and periods in time, but how we cannot stay in them or live in them - we live in the moment we are in.

In this series called "mirrored identity" I wanted to visualize the concept of ourselves as our own worst critic and roadblock for our dreams. This idea of having multiple versions of ourselves, some that are rooting for us and helping us pursue our dreams and some that are negative and criticizing. I used black and white editing to convey this heaviness and used angel and fairy wings to convey that this heaviness and feeling of self criticism doesn't last forever.

For this assignment I wanted to work with images in pairs (diptych) with special emphasis on time and movement. I used slow shutter speed to create that frozen in time feel and then arranged the photos to tell the timeline/story of the couple "falling in love."

I wanted to empathize the features on the model in my photograph for this glitch - glitching on portraits can easily just distort the face but I wanted this to be eye catching and simple yet intriguing, hence the glitch on the eye.

Dada at its core is about abandoning the traditional, aesthetic artistic style. Dada artists were focused on creating unorthodox artwork that valued meaning over visuals. The art could be "ugly" or considered "non art" by viewers, but as long as it impressed a message on the viewer, they didn't care - and frankly that was the point. Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" is a great representation of dada artists fundamental beliefs. His readymades were criticized and questioned. How can an object be art? If it's just an object? But the refashioning with context of that item made it art. And it was disruptive. And that was what Dadaism was all about. When something was accepted, they rejected it and moved on. Dadaism "died" when the general collective began to accept the art and it didn't pose questions or outrage anymore.

I carefully thought out these photos, their props and arrangement to convey a feeling / deeper meaning of self reflection. The photograph on the left (heart) is meant to portray the feeling of being an empath, and a person who naturally feels and gives a lot to others, hence the candle, low burnt wax, and the vibrant colors. The photo on the right (flowers) is meant to portray the feeling of being in a long distance relationship, which is a considerable part of my identity. the flowers are connected, but not touching to symbolize how being in a long distance relationship can feel, from my perspective. I wanted to focus on color, space, and shapes with these images.

looked for unique lighting, lines, and angle opportunities. was careful with trying to get lines precise given could only take 2 photos.

Blog post 1: this is a photograph I took that I like because of its use of shadow and highlight, geometric shape, black and white editing, and repetition. i also enjoy how the post production use of grain gives the photo a distinct sort of vintage feel.
