We attended the BICZ meetup at City Side Cafe downtown Brampton, where I spent my time with a nice hot rich Americano coffee, formatting a digital photography mini-zine, we also contributed a panel each to the collaborative comic, all while surrounded by art and artists; check out both City Side Cafe and Brampton Indie Comics & Zines! The cafe’s coffee was so good that I used it in my watercolour so I could take it home.

. We vended the Summer Artists’ Market at the Springdale Brampton Library.

. Very kind and accommodating event hosts from BAO kept us fed and hydrated, they came to each table with a full trolley!

. High energy environment, it was nice just being among other creators in the library while drawing and writing.

. Prajna or The Elephant . Different Ground

.

. We were welcomed back to City Side Cafe for the Queer Artists Showcase (hosted by @Project14_ on Instagram), where I read the lyrics for a demo song called Different Ground, and got to listen to poetry and music by a handful of artists, including the solo guitar debut of the one and only Electric Armchair.

. I was panicking a little, to be honest, sorry that I had kept to myself, but it was real nice listening to and being part of our local queer community. Our three other performers were so good.

. Video credit for this one goes to April, who enjoyed the iced macha. I thought it was good too, tasting more like a quality vanilla ice cream.

.

. Different Ground is a demo song by Prajna or The Elephant, framed as part of the series Together In Forever which follows our hero the Overseer. Themes of otherness and incongruence stemmed from the inability to communicate when others, unawares, discriminate about people in or close to the conversation, and one's need to come on down from up on some higher morality in order to have the chance of any meaningful interaction. I have struggled with identity for the better part of my life, so I wanted to explore the feeling of disinclusion and the act of reaching out to those perpetuating it.

Myself to the ground

Unable to ride \

Down on different ground, \

The Odyssey, by Homer, is by far one of my favorite books.

Although, I have been sitting on this review for almost two years now. So, instead of condensing this into a traditional HaikuPrajna review, I just did an edit to parse the study notes into a collection of ideas sorted by the twenty and three “Books” in the story of Odysseus.

I have a nice big physical tome at home that I have been leafing through while writing this haiku and pseudo-essay; I know this is read in curriculum some places around the world, but there is a reason Homer’s Odyssey is a timeless classic, it really is just that good.

Unable to recommend it enough, especially now that the Christopher Nolan adaptation is out.

Hello reader,

We were again welcomed by the Brampton Library at their annual Local Authors Showcase at Garden Square outside of the Rose Theatre on the opening day of the Farmers' Market downtown. We enjoyed clear blue skies beside other creatives while meeting with friends both old and new. Bring a sunhat or an umbrella in addition to sunscreen if you intend to be outside for more than an hour on the hot weekends of the Market!

After meeting friends vending at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (and handing out a few of our zines), we walked through the new parts of the greenhouse at Allan Gardens, which was incredible on the sunny day we had, before heading to Nathan Philips Square and listening to Broken Social Scene, then Feist after a stop at Harvey's for a sandwich each. Both performances that we caught were incredible, inspiring and captivating. We stayed for the entirety of both sets, then we went home and I strung up my papa’s old classical.

The latest of the Brampton Indie Comics and Zines meetups was at the rentable event space in the Rose Theatre, which was nostalgic for us because April and I have each performed on both the space’s and the main stage in our youths. The group we sat with at BICZ was a pleasure. We made and shared art, it was great.

Hello reader,

We had a market space at the Peel Pop-up Market in the Susan Fennell Youth Hub!

After crossing from the northeast corner of the city to the southwest, and after crossing the Sheridan College campus in the rain with a bag that had a handle snap on us in the parking lot, we reached the the sports and rec centre, a very nice facility with a Library, all a short walk from Shopper's World.

Our hosts kept us vendors well fed and hydrated with pops, cookies, chips and pizza; our neighours ranged from other arts and crafts to social services, please do go check them out through the @youth2action Instagram!

Visitors went home with #prints of my “A Date At The Zoo” #watercolour Tiger #painting, origami, copies of Escape Perennial City and April's Fright Folk, and a number of #stickers and Electric Armchair's Pocket Comics mini-#zines!

Huge thank you to everyone who showed up and checked out our art, as well to our hosts and venue for the opportunity to meet others while sharing what we love to do.
