“You’re probably right about that – but you’re wrong about me. I did what I had to do to survive, but I never meant to hurt you. Say what you will about me: call me liar, murderer, double-agent. Never doubt that though. That one thing was true.” Something had fractured between them, and whatever bright light she had once upon a time shined his way had dimmed. It caused a frown to etch across his face. 

“You never meant to hurt me?” She said shock and disbelief etched across her face. “You betrayed us, betrayed me. But you never meant to hurt me.” She said baffled. Any part of her that used to trust him wasn’t there anymore. All that was left was the hurt that he had caused.

“Since when were you an agent, Skye?” He knew the answer. He had broken something in the team by doing his damn job, and the pieces were still trying to find their way back together. “I thought you never wanted that – at least not like this.” 

“Why does it matter to you?” She asked him raising a brow. Her team had become her family and she would do anything for them. “You don’t know what I want and don’t want anymore. You betrayed us.”

He couldn’t help it; he smiled at her words. Still sharp as whip. He had lied about many things, but one thing remained true: there was not another like Skye, and she remained different from all those he crossed. “Something like that,” he returned. “Are you going to kill me if I do?”

Skye didn’t know how to feel about seeing him again. After everything the team had went through the way he left it was difficult. It took time for them to start to go back to the way it was before. She rolled her eyes at his question. “Depends on the orders I get.”
