alejandro rodruiguez has an addictive enthusiasm, as a performer and as a human being.Â
he’s an actor, an educator, and a poet, and he is masterful at each of his trades. he’s a tremendous and sincere actor, a revolutionary teaching artist, and a poet like none i’ve ever met - you can’t help but lean into his performance and practically fall over when it ends. he’s also is the co-founder of the interdiscplinary performance collective Shook Ones, and he develops programming for Artists Striving to End Poverty, a nonprofit that connects artists with kids around the globe.
alejandro will be helping us end Habitat Tour 2015 pretty epically by performing a couple pieces with the NYC cityscape as a background on Friday night!Â
likely our handsomest habitat tourist, and oh what a rogue: drew broussard, ladies and gents.
drew is one of a kind. he usually rocks with his band Future Dead Guys, but will be playing a rare solo & acoustic set full of some old and new original songs, and some fun covers. as a performer, he’s at once captivating & silly, severe & completely lighthearted.
more about drew: he’s a book person! he’s got a podcast! he’s a writer! he’s an actor! is there anything this guy doesn’t do?
come to friday’s show to find out!
You see how we do this, it's a little like church. As to whether it's religion, we'll leave that up to you.
OH MAUDE GUN OH.Â
maude gun is molly murphy & jenni messner and they are both wonderful solo artists in their own right, but the combo of the two is crazy good.Â
so much storytelling, so much ferocity, so much heart n soul pouring.
seeing them play on a rooftop is going to be one of those “am i dreaming or what is going on and who are these beautiful ladies and actually i don’t care they are wonderful” experiences. FRIDAY MAUDE FRIDAY GUN.
we are bashful to promote two thirds of the artists for our last show, coz they are US. but here we go:
dani evelyn grew up in the woods of california. Later, she got a guitar and moved to brooklyn. now she is an indie-folk singer-songwriter. intimate and fiercely honest, her songs are made for sitting in treehouses on late summer evenings. her first official release, The Treetops EP, came out May 12, 2015.Â
listen to the EP here, then come get a free download and hear some lullabies at friday’s show!

join us for the last show of Habitat Tour 2015!! RSVP to [email protected]
thank you to everyone who came out to our august 15th show, especially our hosts, Caity and Zach!Â
remember to check out Diego Clare, EW Harris, and Zachary Joy Smith - these folky gents are so, so worth listening to.Â
see you for our next (and final!) show on the 28th! stay tuned for details.Â
The first time I heard EW Harris play, he got to the mic and asked "do you want to hear a song about an alien or a vampire?'
The audience emphatically chose the former, and I thought 'where is this going to go?" and then the song ended and I was nearly in tears. EW has an incredible talent for finding the deeply human in the non-human.
His powerhouse vocals (I swear, he can do some seriously impressive vocal gymnastics), his gorgeous songwriting, and his ability to always step on stage and have a blast - these are only some of the things that make EW a not-to-be-missed performer. Watching him play solo is just as fun as watching him when playing with the inimitable Sky Captains of Industry, travelers of space and time who come to us from the future to tell us about the world to come and of course to ROCK.
We're SO thrilled EW is joining us in Astoria before he leaves to tour Europe, and thrilled also because he will be bringing along his brand new album. Our show will be one of two opportunities to grab an album before he takes them on tour.
DON'T MISS THIS. Saturday, August 15th at 7pm.
I met Diego Clare back in March at a friend's gig, and we got to talking about music making.Â
At some point in the evening, he generously handed me a copy of his album 'Diegesis'. I didn't have any cash on me, and when I expressed my regrets about not being able to pay he said, 'Don't worry about it. I just want people to have the music'.
Well I also very much want people to have this music. The album is gorgeously produced, made up of a fully realized, full band sound that is as powerful as it is incredibly intimate. There are so many subtleties in the composition that you only catch on multiple listens: that distant, killer guitar riff and bass line or beautiful, ethereal melody on the strings. The vocals and lyrics also hit you where it counts. When his sound is stripped down to just his voice and the guitar, the impact is just as great.Â
Such smart and soulful tunes. Come experience them up close and personal on Saturday, August 15th at 7pm in Astoria.
hosted by habitat tour veterans zach and caity smith in their lovely back yard!Â

thank you to everyone who came to our 8/9 show!!Â
it was such a lovely afternoon, featuring CURRY PUFFS (live debut, and it was so so good), a fun Dani + Molly set, and the lovely Eden Hana.Â
join us next week for a magical garden show on 8/15!
meet folksy, sweet, joan-didion-loving, earthy-voiced angel EDEN HANA!
anyone who came to the first habitat show this year will know eden from her powerhouse harmonies on a few of our songs, and will be as excited as we are that eden is headlining our show on 8/9!Â
hailing from portland, eden is in NYC for grad school for educational theater. which is awesome. she’s going to be teaching all our children how to be nice artistic human beings some day soon. we’re glad about that.Â
she also plays a mean banjo and guitar, and her voice is crazy beautiful and unique. she’d a friend of OUR friends at big city folk. she’s a true blue folk artist, and we’re so glad she’s a habitat tourista! Â
kirstin huber is an important person for habitat tour fans to know about.Â
1. she is the gracious host of our AUG 9TH show. the last time i was at a party she hosted, she was wearing a dirndl and carrying around an empty egg carton with shots of schnapps.Â
2. she is half of the show’s opening band, CURRY PUFFS. i cannot wait for their set. at all.Â
3. she is an incredible artist. i know kirstin through her work as Art Director & Senior Graphic Designer at The Public Theater, and also through her work making me very cute birthday cards and other assorted crafts. she’ll be whipping up an art exhibition for the 9th as well.Â
check out kirstin’s work here.
Lora Faye being amazing at the 7/11 show. Video cred goes to our host Mike!

Lora Faye
Oh my stars. Could we love Lora Faye any more? No. No we could not.Â
Good thing she’s headlining our July 11th show.Â
Lora Faye is electric. She is charming. She is edgy. She is sweet. She writes songs about the pleasure of disorientation: that human tendency to thrill at the loss of control. A Brooklyn native, she has headlined such local stages as Lincoln Center and Joe’s Pub. The past few years have awarded her a handful of prestigious songwriting awards, and she continues to be recognized as an emerging and innovative talent in her genre-bending landscape.
Check her out, listen to her jams, become a fan.Â
Her band is also fab city. They are: Â Nick Lerman, Rachel Brotman, Marty Fowler, Dave Palazola
