First off, thank you for the super kind words, you’re a very sweet soul and though this is a very late response, it made me smile! To answer though, I’ve been drawing on and off since 2015/16, and it’s always helped to just draw and fixate on things that make me happy. It can be tough, but as long as you stick with it without forcing yourself and over exerting, it will pay off. I ended up drawing a bunch of characters I really adored a lot and found it also helped to draw with other people collaboratively through art ask blogs, so I would recommend art trades among friends! In my experience, it helped to draw and create when I felt like I was making it for someone else and I could cling to the excitement of making a new piece.

I want you to know that it can get tough and you may not feel like you’re improving, but to keep in mind you don’t always see the progress you gain until you look back on it, just try not to be harsh with yourself for not creating Mona Lisa’s with each piece you make.

I am with you on shading and colouring being tricky, and though I don’t have the best advice in that department, I would like to direct you to Angel Ganev’s art YouTube here where he gives super useful colouring advice in a very easy to digest and understand way. I usually get confused following other tutorials but he explains things in a way that makes sense and isn’t as intimidating.

Definitely also play with a lot of brushes, find ones that feel right and easy to use, I don’t know how to word it but it’ll feel natural and effortless to doodle and line or ink. New brushes can also inspire new art pieces so it just helps to play around and experiment using different ones too. A good brush can also help shape your artstyle through said experimentation!
