90s movies: Psychopharmacology is as good as a lobotomy. If you take pills to treat your mental illness it will literally murder your imaginary friends and you will become a boring, lotus-eating conformist drone.
Me after taking my meds: drives the scenic route home to see if there are any geese on the pond and does a little dance in line at the grocery store and comes home to throw everything in my fridge into a stew pot because I can finally taste food again while singing songs at my birds in which I replace all the instances of "she" with "Cheese" and doing a Dolly Parton impression on the phone to my sister
"What were you like before taking the meds tho"
Two weeks ago I was posting about eating cake frosting for dinner.
I feel like it's worth mentioning that being on The Wrong Meds can indeed do the 90s movie thing to you.
Like, if you go on meds and that happens, it's not because whatever's going on with you is jut Too Severe or that you're doomed or only people with Other Illnesses get to have meds that make them feel actually good and you have to settle for "miserable but somehow so hollow I no longer care about the misery" and be grateful you're no longer actively suicidal or whatever.
If that shit happens to you, tell your fucking doctor. And if your doctor doesn't take you seriously, or acts like That's Just How Being On Meds Is, ditch them! Find a new doctor!! Because that is NOT how being on meds is supposed to work! That means the meds are not working correctly!!
Reblogging to agree and say that what was happening to me was (and to an extent still is) severe and was the result of manifold health problems and has taken the better part of a year to effectively treat. I did not expect medication to be this effective. But it is. So if you think that you are untreatable, get a second opinion.
there is a single pill i can take to immediately live a day as the best version of myself-- not a superhero, not a perfect genius, but a good dude who can read and write and do the dishes. im optimistic and coherent and can plan for the future. i write novels and walk the dog and remember to shower and brush my teeth.
if i don't take this pill i spend the day as a dirty, inept husk, a sad sack of well-meaning but futile intentions just sapient enough to be dimly aware of everything im unable to be.
this pill is incredibly difficult to obtain a steady monthly supply of because when normal people take it they have a little more fun at parties.
Counterpoint: At least if I spend the remainder of my natural life as a dirty, inept husk, a sad sack of well-meaning but futile intentions just sapient enough to be dimly aware of everything I'm unable to be... at least I'll know I'm me, not a fake version of myself created by medication. Nor do I have to worry about regressing if I run out, the repeat prescription doesn't come in time etc.
Not dissing OP's choice to take advantage of the meds, but they're not for me.
Hey, so, this is kind of the attitude that made me afraid to take meds that I really benefit from: the idea that who you are on medication is somehow "not really you."
The person I was when I was very depressed did not feel like the real me. That was a version of me that was very ill. The "real me" is the me that is able to dance at stoplights and make art and enjoy food and laugh at jokes. And for now, I need pharmaceutical help to get back there.
The assistance that medication provides doesn't make me any less The Real Me than wearing glasses or taking painkillers. Depression is a physical illness. If you try medication and you don't like the way it makes you feel, then it's not a good medication for you. But you do get to choose, and I'm glad I have the opportunity to choose to actually be myself again.
Being autistic is like screaming through a megaphone “please don’t overwork me, i WILL explode” and everyone responds like haha well. You’ll get used to it over time :)
i need greater societal understanding for the fact that people with autism are just less capable of handling stress and are more likely to become stressed from things that are invisible to others. like can you be nice
I may have resonated with the autistics among us

“he”?
confirmed
I’ve seen this post a bunch and never once did I consider a scenario where it wasn’t about a woman.
hey. Wanna hear something funny
HE IS A DUDE!
THE PLOT TWIST A LIFETIME
HE *DID* DO HER RIGHT!
Hello! My name is Von. I am a trans dude out in Brooklyn and I finally have a top surger… Von Morris needs your support for Help Von Recove
Putting the link in the post.
fuck it. be creative even if you never really *make* anything. write out plot synopses of stories and then move on. design OCs you'll never use. make mood boards and concept art and don't do anything with them. life's too short to forget everything that inspired you and creation doesn't have to be "complete" to be worth the time you put into it.

I'm being a nerd and I saw "errors in deathly hallows" and I feel like I can provide my thought process on a few. This post may become long as I reblog and add more shit. But this is the first one I saw that I feel like I can kinda answer. Gonna add a read more bc spoilers and ik some people haven't read/seen all of em yet
The error: Voldemort takes Lucius’s wand so he can attack Harry without the Priori Incantatem thing happening again. But he’s had Ollivander captive for a year, and in fact forced him to make a wand for Pettigrew; why didn’t he force Ollivander to make him a new wand as well?
My thoughts on this is a two point thing. One, he's prideful. He doesn't want to admit to someone outside his inner circle that he needs a different wand to defeat Harry. And Ollivander may not have done it if Voldemort told him what it's for. Second, I feel like he's punishing Lucius Malfoy for getting arrested, being a coward, and for Draco not actually fulfilling the task he was assigned (killing Dumbledore.
"fuck it we ball" is for stress about the future "it is what it is" is for stress about the past and "this too shall pass" is for stress about the present thank you for coming to my TED talk
oh my god that noise??????
The way she loses it too is proof she didn’t anticipate exactly what she would sound like.
She might just be cracking up because she got Ryan to break, which is notoriously hard to do
I want to say both
Took a risk and it paid off
This is the face of someone who knows this doesn't always work.

Hardest part of writing is accepting that some people will not fucking get it & you just have to like cope with that because over-explaining it just makes it worse
I will not over-explain my art to the stupidest people on earth. I'm writing for people who know what I'm talking about. Mantra that will save you. David Lynch was right
diet talk is so inexpressibly nonsensical the instant you know anything about "the human body" or "nutrition" or if you think about it for three seconds
"this is a great, low-calorie meal for meal prep!"
okay how do I explain this to you. "calories" is the part of food that makes it food. you actually need calories to stay alive. so "low-calorie" is the opposite of a selling point. kind of makes it sound like I'm going to be putting in a lot of time and effort just to not be nourished
"I then immediately ruined the nutrition of the broccoli by pouring cheese all over it, but, hey, I tried"
okay hang on tight because this is a tough one. I'm going to try to explain the concept of "addition" to you. so the broccoli has a certain amount of calories, vitamins, and other nutrients in it, right? and the cheese has a certain amount of calories, vitamins, and other nutrients in it. and when you add the cheese to the broccoli, well... the nutrition of the resulting food can be found by adding the contents of both of its components to each other. I hope this helps
People who actually know about nutrition tell you to eat cheese and butter with your vegetables, because each has unique vitamins and minerals and other nutrients that your body struggles or straight up cannot absorb without something the other has. When you eat only raw veg because it's "healthy," you're missing out on half its nutritive value because some of those nutrients require additional lipids or specific vitamins like vitamin A or D or E to be readily absorbed by your digestive tract and again to be used in different parts of your body. Dieting makes it so instead of just dumping out all your pieces in a pile and following the instructions you can build your flatpack shelf, it's like placing each component in a different place in your house, and the shelf never gets built because you got tired of waking every time you needed something, so there it sits until one day you decide it's garbage and throw it out. A little butter or olive oil and a quick stir fry turns your vegetables from expensive fiber supplements to bioavaliable nutrients. Have your berries with some cream or full-fat yogurt: it's literally healthier and more complete nutrition. Put plenty of dressing on your salad. Have a steak: you need the iron. Stop starving yourself in the name of health because that's not how that works.
it is so jarring and weird when a fantasy book is like “ok let’s go around the circle and have each character talk about which lgbt umbrella category they identify with” like ok your fantasy world doesn’t have to be feudal europe but can it not be 2023 twitter please

#there was a book I read a few years back#I'm not gonna name it#but like#all the characters would intro themselves as#HI I'M (NAME) AND I'M A LESBIAN#and whoever they were talking to would be like#HI (NAME) I'M (OTHER NAME) AND I'M TRANS#....#like#I love representation#would love to see more of it#but can we please not make it at the expense of actual good writing or storytelling???#queer characters are just like...characters#and should be treated as such#queerness is an aspect#like if a character is a pizza#then queerness is the cheese or the sauce or mushrooms or w/e#it isn't the whole pie#it can be critical to the pizza!#but we want full pizza characters#not none pizza left queer
On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, one of the most elegant examples I saw of showing that a character was trans, was that a member of the protagonist team named Maia had stolen some important document that was an editable text file about experiments, and when the other characters read the file, it kept referring to “states of maiaer” and “antimaiaer”. One of her teammates realized that someone must’ve gone through and run automated find-and-replace on “Matt” to “Maia”.
I was just going to reblog this for "none pizza left queer" but "states of antimaiaer" is somehow even funnier
I love when trans people look back on their earlier art, its always so interesting
