The outside of the house was nice, a quaint little cottage that had been a twenty minute drive from the heart of Torrence. It was an older home, the off white paint chipping from the stone exterior. It had garden bed’s at the base of the home, not there was anything currently in them due to the season.

“Remember, I cannot fall in love with this place, I’m just meant to be looking.” Anya whispered, unsure if she was reminding Maho or herself.

Maho was eating her doughnut slowly. This was great. She was getting free food in exchange for being a bitch to a house. She squeezed Anya’s hand.

“It’s pretty cute, honestly. But yeah. Don’t fall in love just yet.”

Except she couldn’t cancel because that would be rude, so she had brought Maho to be a realist.

The real estate agent came over, opening the gate and leading them up to the house. The paint chips were pretty bad, but easily fixable.

“Ooh, it must have so much history! And maybe asbestos! Has an asbestos survey been done here?”

Before Elle the Real Estate Agent can say anything, Maho turns to look at Anya with the haunted expression of someone who lost her child in The Great Asbestos Incident Of 1877, which was made the fuck up and not real.

“Girl, if you wanna do anything to this house, you gotta do this. Or you’ll die. The floors. The pipes. The insulation. Asbestos everywhere.”

Elle the Real Estate Agent says “Well-“

“Is that an actual risk?”

Anya turned towards Elle, who was seemingly realizing Maho’s plans for this tour. There was a look of mild horror in her eyes and her smile had become a lot tighter.

“My God,” she says, thinking about Little Timmy Who Doesn’t Exist, rolling in his little grave. “Well, okay, Anya. If you’re getting this house just keep that in mind. Asbestos survey. It will cost money. And then getting rid of the asbestos. More money.”

Maho courteously smiles at Elle the Real Estate Agent. “Thanks for the warning, Elle.”

Going inside, Maho takes another bite of her donut as she scans the house for more things to rip apart. Ah, the door! The front door! Very charming. Lovely little window on it. Stained glass window with a flower. Truly, a very nice door. She thinks about how easily she could punch through the glass and open it if she ever felt like murdering Anya. She didn’t, but someone might! These were important things to think about.

“Oh.” She said. “That’s problematic.”

Elle takes a Deep Inhale.

“What’s wrong?” Elle asks, politely.

“Someone could break in. Look at this, Anya. It’s such an openable, kickable door.”

“It could be replaced easily, with something that has a more modern lock if you’d like, or you could just install a new lock to this existing door! I think that would be great. Modern and vintage at the same time. Wouldn’t you love to have a door like this?”

“Actually, how is the power and wifi? Like if I wanted to install some security measures would that be possible?”

“Well, there isn’t actually wifi hooked up quite yet, the old owners never got to that. However, I’m sure once you got that set up there wouldn’t be any problems with installing a security system.” Elle explained as she lead them towards the kitchen. She glanced back at Maho before speaking once more. “Not to mention that the chance of break in are severely lowered due to the distance from the city.”

That sounded reasonable. Except there was clearly a lot of work this house would need. Anya was fairly sure she didn’t have the time nor the money to do all that.

This was weirdly only the second time Hivey had actually been inside Ava’s place. For someone reason Hivemind found most times they went to her place. She would have to see if Ava minded that, but that was something for later.

Right now Anya just wanted to comfort her friend. Which she hoped the box of stuff she brought over might help with.

[Upon hearing Hivemind's voice, Ava's head shot up, her bionic eye glowing like a spotlight in the dark from her place on the couch. All the lights in her apartment were very dimmed, so Ava's eye was the only indicator that she was there.]

Anya..! You made it...

“Are you okay? How much have you slept? Have you eaten? I brought all the cookies I had left in my stash. I also brought take out but if you’ve eaten recently you can save it for later.”

The blonde rambled away, squeezing Ava firmly as if reassuring herself that she was there. Anya was so thankful that Ava had far in her life now. It was nice to know that someone would be there for Ava when Anya couldn’t.

Plus, Fae really did seem like a good kid.

Hehehe...tired, for one thing... [She said as she drew away slightly.] I really haven't moved off the couch since I put myself here, so...good call to bring the food, yeah? You always manage to deliver...

[Now that Anya was closer, the stress and almost constant exhaustion engraved into Ava's face was much more clear to see. The dark rings under her eyes almost made her look like a raccoon in the dim lighting.]

Anya grinned, pulling away just enough so she grab the bag of Chinese food that sat on top of the box of treasure. It had been the quickest place. Though, Ava didn’t need to know that she had ordered it before actually asking to come over.

She had planned to bring the food over either way. The blonde had noticed that whenever Ava was really stressed she kind of forgot to eat, or at least forgot to eat anything semi healthy. Anya knew she had a similar bad habit, mainly of just eating candy and pastries, but her body was built to store energy and required extra sugars. Therefore, she could get away with eating junk all the time. She didn’t really want Ava copying her, not unless the brunette suddenly got the same fucked up stomach as her.

Chinese is perfect. I'm honestly surprised you brought all this food with you. I was only expecting just little snack foods...you didn't have to do all this...

[She pressed against her side, wing wrapping around her shoulders in a side hug as a quiet show of appreciation.]

Hivemind pulled the containers from the bag, placing them on the table so Ava could grab whatever she wanted. Anya had gotten a little bit of everything, unsure what Ava would eat. The eating thing hadn’t been a lie, she had been in gym right before she texted Ava. So while texting her she had scarfed down half a wedding cake.

“Plus, I know sometimes you don’t eat when you’re stressed. So I wanted to bring by some snacks and somethings that’ll fill you. It’s not too much it’s just um how I show I care.”

I..suppose that's true... [She agreed, still feeling a little bad that her friend had spent her own money to feed her when the angel struggled to feed herself. Did she really have to rely on Anya to make sure she didn't starve herself sick while under stress already? Would she be doing the same to Fae? It felt...Selfish.]

She wrapped a wing around Ava’s shoulder as she leaned back against the couch. Her face softened, the concern clear on the heroine’s face as she looked her friend over.

If anything, it's me who's lucky...I spent a good majority of my life having to look after myself. Being given any sort of assistance became a way to say that I'd become too dependent on others to the point I couldn't keep myself afloat without it.

[She finally dug into the food, almost crying from how good it tasted. Then again, anything tasted good when you were hungry enough. It still brought a tear to her eye.]

Of course, that's not healthy and I know it's not. Which is why I'm trying to be less of a stuck up bitch about it, y'know?

“I’m glad you like it! We can totally get you some next time you come to my place, it’s from this restaurant right across from my apartment building.”

The heroine paused after that, her smile fading as she began to think about Ava’s other words. It brought back an old thought, a question that had been lingering for quite some time.

Anya didn’t want to push, especially not when Ava was relaxed in the first time in a while. However, her concern wouldn’t go away. She would just ask and if Ava didn’t want to talk about it then Anya wouldn’t push.

I'll definitely have to check it out with you sometime...because I won't lie, this stuff tastes amazing.

“Who raised you? I um only ask because you were on your own at such a young age. Im sorry if i’m um prying.”

It had been hard not to notice how Ava was completely on her own, how she had been so since she was 17. Sure, Anya had moved out at just 17, but her situation had been a little different with her hive and mutations.

[She grew tense again, but relaxed when Anya's hand found her shoulder. Looking back at her friend, Ava knew she could be honest. She trusted Anya. She trusted her as much as the bow that never left her neck.]

[With a deep breath of stability, she began to speak.]

Or at least that’s what she hoped she was doing. She knew she couldn’t heal those traumas, not really. The wound had already healed so to speak. Except it left a jagged scar, that affected Ava every day.

“I’m glad you chose to come here, Ava.” The blonde said quietly, the words feeling like an understatement.

“I mean, I’m sorry they were like that, but I’m so proud of you for getting away. They um… they didn’t deserve to have such an amazing kid like you.”

Ava’s parents were on Hivemind’s shit list for sure, in the same section as her own mother and Shroud. The Heroine hoped she never had to meet the couple, because she knew she would not act politely. She could see herself throwing a punch or two, which she really couldn’t be doing to civilians.

[She pressed against her side, wing wrapping around her shoulders in a side hug as a quiet show of appreciation.]

Hivemind pulled the containers from the bag, placing them on the table so Ava could grab whatever she wanted. Anya had gotten a little bit of everything, unsure what Ava would eat. The eating thing hadn’t been a lie, she had been in gym right before she texted Ava. So while texting her she had scarfed down half a wedding cake.

“Plus, I know sometimes you don’t eat when you’re stressed. So I wanted to bring by some snacks and somethings that’ll fill you. It’s not too much it’s just um how I show I care.”

The outside of the house was nice, a quaint little cottage that had been a twenty minute drive from the heart of Torrence. It was an older home, the off white paint chipping from the stone exterior. It had garden bed’s at the base of the home, not there was anything currently in them due to the season.

“Remember, I cannot fall in love with this place, I’m just meant to be looking.” Anya whispered, unsure if she was reminding Maho or herself.

Maho was eating her doughnut slowly. This was great. She was getting free food in exchange for being a bitch to a house. She squeezed Anya’s hand.

“It’s pretty cute, honestly. But yeah. Don’t fall in love just yet.”

Except she couldn’t cancel because that would be rude, so she had brought Maho to be a realist.

The real estate agent came over, opening the gate and leading them up to the house. The paint chips were pretty bad, but easily fixable.

This was weirdly only the second time Hivey had actually been inside Ava’s place. For someone reason Hivemind found most times they went to her place. She would have to see if Ava minded that, but that was something for later.

Right now Anya just wanted to comfort her friend. Which she hoped the box of stuff she brought over might help with.

[Upon hearing Hivemind's voice, Ava's head shot up, her bionic eye glowing like a spotlight in the dark from her place on the couch. All the lights in her apartment were very dimmed, so Ava's eye was the only indicator that she was there.]

Anya..! You made it...

“Are you okay? How much have you slept? Have you eaten? I brought all the cookies I had left in my stash. I also brought take out but if you’ve eaten recently you can save it for later.”

The blonde rambled away, squeezing Ava firmly as if reassuring herself that she was there. Anya was so thankful that Ava had far in her life now. It was nice to know that someone would be there for Ava when Anya couldn’t.

Plus, Fae really did seem like a good kid.

Hehehe...tired, for one thing... [She said as she drew away slightly.] I really haven't moved off the couch since I put myself here, so...good call to bring the food, yeah? You always manage to deliver...

[Now that Anya was closer, the stress and almost constant exhaustion engraved into Ava's face was much more clear to see. The dark rings under her eyes almost made her look like a raccoon in the dim lighting.]

Anya grinned, pulling away just enough so she grab the bag of Chinese food that sat on top of the box of treasure. It had been the quickest place. Though, Ava didn’t need to know that she had ordered it before actually asking to come over.

She had planned to bring the food over either way. The blonde had noticed that whenever Ava was really stressed she kind of forgot to eat, or at least forgot to eat anything semi healthy. Anya knew she had a similar bad habit, mainly of just eating candy and pastries, but her body was built to store energy and required extra sugars. Therefore, she could get away with eating junk all the time. She didn’t really want Ava copying her, not unless the brunette suddenly got the same fucked up stomach as her.

Anyways I just wanted someone to go with me to point out any flaws I might miss. I don’t want to get too excited. I’m really just looking so I shouldn’t fall too in love with a place.

I’ve been doing okay, I’m going to meet Faetality later so that’ll be fun. Me and Indy have been doing pretty good. We haven’t time to hang out one on one since we had dinner though, so I’m hoping we can do that soon.

I was trying to keep them away from Stella, but they were taking every chance they could to be a dick. Not to mention they kept brushing up against my wings.

So next time they brushed up against my wings during a hand over I just reached out and punched them. Stella’s a menace, but this hero was just being so cruel. I dont really care when heroes behave like that to me, but seeing them target Stella when she was out of it? I just reached my limit.

Listen, Anya. You gotta stand up for yourself too, okay honey? You don’t deserve that either. You’re a good person. You’re worth your weight in gold and you shouldn’t just accept the shit they give you. It’s not right. Teach those fuckers a lesson.

She looks to the side.

As for how I’m doing… honestly, I’ve been better, but I’m dealing with it. I’ll be fine. It’s just that my friend Adrien’s been missing for a while. Since Christmas. I’ve been waiting for updates, but not much has happened yet.

She paused for a moment, glancing away.

I get the whole defending myself thing, I um… I do. I just don’t really care when they do it to me, I’ve been doing this long enough to be used to it.
