Damn they really got Whitaker doing CPR in every episode of this show š I don't know if this exposure therapy is working if successive patients keep dying
in his defense, CPR normally doesnāt go very well š thereās a reason youāre doing CPR and that reason is doing everything it can to work against you
okay i want to talk about isaiah 40 in the pitt. iām not familiar with judaism so bare with me, but robby recites the shema, which from my understanding is a declaration of faith in God? lmk if im wrong. but! isaiah 40 is about comfort for Godās people, and the verses right before the verse whitaker recites talks about how God does not grow tired, but men do. the staff in the pitt are tired. then that gives us the verse whitaker recites about how God will restore that strength so long as you wait. also, important context, isaiah 40 occurs during the babylonian exile, in which Godās people, the Jews, were forced out of Jerusalem and into exile in Babylon. their temples were destroyed, and they faced tons of hardships, yet still maintained their faith. itās a super important moment in Jewish history as far as iām aware.
so basically, whitaker, who weāve seen kind of struggle relating to and understanding people, immediately upon hearing that robby was reciting a Jewish prayer, recalled a verse reminding specifically the Jews facing horrible hardships to wait for God because He will give them strength. he hears that robby is one of Godās people by his own declaration and then recites a reminder of strength for Godās people in hard times. which i think is absolutely amazing character development and i love him
Just adding my two cents: the Shema is a declaration of faith, yes, but itās also the first prayer a Jewish person learns and the last thing they say before they die, and woven into daily life in between. Itās not just a theological statement; itās intimate, emotional, instinctive - a tether to identity, history, and hope, especially in moments of fear or crisis.
The FASCINATING thing is that he immediately follows it up with a "baruch shem kāvodā¦ā, which is typically recited after kriyat shema, but also should be said after one accidentally recites a blessing in vain. And maybe Iām reading too much into this, but with Robbyās strained and complicated relationship with God, that moment reads almost like a retraction. Like heās thinking, āWho am I to seek comfort in something Iāve long since stopped believing in?ā. The words come out by instinct, and then he second-guesses himself, pulls back. because he doesn't believe in the words of Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.
Which makes his later interaction with Whittaker all the more powerful. Because Whittaker shows Robby that itās okay - that even in doubt, even in pain, he can still reach for something sacred. That faith doesnāt have to be perfect to be meaningful.
Oh my gosh thank you so much for this addition!! This makes it so much better. Iām so glad someone was able to explain it more from the Jewish perspective as well.
Look, I get that some people might not like Langdon and think heāll be gone next season but if you have paid attention to the show, the show is very kind to McKay and sheās sober, the narrative is going to be pretty kind to him and heāll get the help he needs. The final is going to be the start of that I believe. Heās going to rehab and I think season 2 is when he gets back from there
There is a really appalling outlook on addiction and mental health among viewers of this show apparently. Maybe it's cause I'm old and I was out of college by the early 2000s - but I do not understand this excessive inability to give someone grace and forgiveness the very second they do anything (the collective) "you" decide is offensive. Ironically, back then it was NOT talked about. You kept your head down and you suffered in silence and you did not have support and being depressed was still considered crazy. I thought we'd moved beyond that as a society. Does this diminish the criminal aspect of what happened? No of course not. It just doesn't mean he can't recover from it either. The internet is acting like he stood in the middle of the ER and like decapitated a baby. Apparently, we're all supposed to be for criminal justice reform and rehabilitation - right until it's a somewhat cocky pretty boy with a good jaw line. They've also all apparently seen an episode of the show that a lot of us must have missed. The plot of that episode was where they actually proved that a) he's been working high b) he actually diverted anything other then those 10 pills.
Also, I bet more often than not they have no clue what itās like to see the things healthcare workers, specifically er workers, see. Until you havenāt slept right after putting someone in a body bag or youāve felt the crack of ribs while doing CPR, youāll never understand the weight of those experiences nor why someone who does may suffer with addiction or other unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Langdon was wrong, 100%, no one is saying otherwise, but maybe this should start a conversation of why is this a problem, and how do we solve the problem. The world isnāt black and white or good and evil, and you learn that real quick when you see people at the worst moments of their lives, Iāve experienced it firsthand. Langdon is at his lowest, now what defines him is what he chooses to do about it. He chose to come back and help. Now does he choose to get the help he needs?

i have a method of categorizing all the doctors i work with. theyāre either the funniest person youāve ever met, autistic, or have the biggest stick up their ass. iāve included a visual. doctors tend to fit 2 out of 3. iāve personally been aligning all of the docs in the Pitt to the triangle, but i imagine it would work for other shows. have fun
i watched the pitt. i literally work in an emergency room. i am watching my job on tv. i donāt need to watch it i already see it. but yet i still watch
Just a note for the McLaren girlies as we rocket towards the Indianapolis 500!
Kyle Larson, the NASCAR driver Arrow McLaren has recruited to run the 500, casually used the n-word during an iRacing event, and its use was so casual, the other guys just reminded him he was being broadcast instead of being appalled that he used it. The only "mistake" he made was forgetting the world could hear him and not only his buddies. He was 27 when this happened, by the way.
Sure, he was fired/suspended... during a non-existent/meaningless season, and immediately signed to a top team where he went on to great success, because NASCAR doesn't care about racism. (But good on Ganassi for firing him immediately.)
There's something EXTRA shitty about getting your leg-up from the "Drive for Diversity" program and still being a full-blown racist, to add a cherry on top.
Enjoy the FYI! Remember that your Lord and Savior Zak Brown happily employs people like that. š„°
God, I can't believe I'm out here defending Kyle Larson but this... is not the whole story and cuts out what I personally believe to be an important part of this story:
Kyle quietly went above and beyond what he was supposed to do to be reinstated by NASCAR (which is like a meager diversity presentation). He sat and had difficult conversations about his action and the hurt that he created. He took responsibility.
He wrote this about what happened and his experience. People fuck up, even racing drivers. And so often, racing drivers are able to circumvent taking actual responsibility and they certainly don't learn.
But I don't think Kyle fits in that category. So I just wanted to toss out the rest of the story.
i need feminism because when jesus does a magic trick itās a goddamn miracle but when a woman does a magic trick she gets burned at the stake
fabulousĀ
i mean they did also kill jesus. that was a pretty significant thing that happened. like i understand where youāre coming from here but they very much did kill jesus.

i want to watch the braves game and you would think iām trying to do rocket science or something why is baseball so inaccessible
if i had a nickel for every time an f1 driver got appendicitis and the rookie driver who replaced them got points on debut iād have two nickels which isnāt a lot but itās weird that it happened twice
okay Iāve been seeing a lot of people talk about how Carlos shouldnāt have driven fp1 or fp2 bc of appendicitis or how his doctors failed or something so just real quick appendicitis causes a pretty sudden onset of symptoms and has to be somewhat progressed in the symptoms for it to actually be diagnosed. so it has to have been happening for a little bit for that to be visible to doctors on scans and stuff. so no he probably shouldnāt have driven fp1 or fp2, but this is all very typical for appendicitis. hoping for a successful operation and a speedy recovery! and im excited to see what ollie can do
i miss him :(
