âMorgan!â Thea squealed delightfullyâand then coughing a bitâwhen the doctor stepped in, her little legs swinging as she sat on the edge of the exam table. âMy throat hurts,â she whined.Â
Jamie glanced up from the magazine he was mindlessly flipping through, his breath hitching a bit, which shouldnât happen when he saw his best friend nearly every. And yet, ever since he asked the man to be his pretend boyfriend, the librarian couldnât bring himself to stare at Morgan for too long without his blood pressure going up. âUh. Hi. IâmâIâm doing alright,â he greeted, feeling his face blushing from being called sweetheart. He needed to get used to these things if he wanted to convince his parents that they were actually together. âI mean, Thea started coughing a couple days ago and it hasnât cleared up yet. IâŚgot a little worried.âÂ
âIâm glad.â Morgan said tenderly as he smiled while checking over the nurseâs notes. He couldnât help it. Jamie had been his best friend since college and Morgan had a budding crush on him then. Never imagining it going anywhere or turning into anything until Jamie asked him to be his pretend boyfriend. Morgan wasnât going to leave his friend in a tight spot, but he would be lying if he only agreed out of the goodness of heart. Like his cousin always told him; fake it til you make it.Â
âI see. Itâs good you brought her in here, Jamie. It could be nothing serious, but with a persistent cough itâs best to be safe.â He spoke simply. Doctor mode engaged. Setting the clipboard down he washed his hands before putting on gloves. âHas her cough been mostly dry?â Grabbing a couple of tools he gave Thea a smile. âAlright-y Thea. Can you open your mouth for me and give me the loudest âahâ while I take a look at your throat?â
