We Need To Talk About Anti-Asian Hate
I’m pinning this video on my blog because this is an incredibly well-thought out and nuanced conversation Eugene brings to the table that I have hardly seen anywhere, but have thought about a lot myself.
There’s a lot people don’t know about being Asian American. There’s a lot of things we have ignored, or have chosen not to hear. Many people don’t know what it’s like to be Vietnamese, Filipino, Indian, Chinese, or Japanese— or any other varying nationality or ethnicity. Or what it’s like to be a refugee from a war-torn country versus being an educated immigrant. To be poor from these backgrounds or well-off. There’s a lot of people who don’t understand how language barriers, the model minority myth, or generational differences impact us. But if we want to know, we first have to listen.
It’s an hour long, but I implore everyone to watch it because it is incredibly valuable, even I learned a few more things. #Stopasianhate begins by looking at ourselves, our own families, and our own communities.
