despite his image, JJ is actually a little bit of a teetotaler/straight edge, but especially after his injury. he doesn't mind if others do it, he just doesn't like how it makes him feel

Student has to remind JJ to take it easy so he doesn't irritate his injury again, and willingly manages JJ's pain meds in case he gets too rowdy (his injury got him DANGEROUSLY close to joining the 27 Club)

JJ and DJ Yellow aren't rivals, but JJ does slightly side-eye him for being a guy at the Battle of the Bands who only Looks Like A Real DJ instead of... being a real DJ. (because he thinks like, would it really take that much more to learn how to do it for real??)

he felt an equal amount of immense pride and embarrassment when Student revealed he learned how to play the riff from Hot for Teacher for him
