days run together now. she can’t tell how long it’s been since she’d last seen lacey —- since everything. she knows she hasn’t eaten though, no more than enough to get by. and she knows showers had come scarce, that her hats aren’t fooling anyone anymore. and she hates that more than anything, because it means she’s SPIRALING again. she’s losing herself to all of danny’s shit again, after all the hard work she’d put into ridding herself of it before.
and, just like before, lacey seems to be handling it with grace. in her defense, it probably didn’t hurt that it wasn’t her family in ruins after all this. it wasn’t her boyfriend that ended up being her brother, not her father who’d pulled the trigger that night. she tries to remind herself that lacey hurts too. but it’s just so hard to see past that FRESH SMILE. she smiles back anyway. ❛ you don’t have to GO. unless you’re just straight up avoiding me — which i so wouldn’t blame you for anymore… ❜
an unforeseen rejoinder ! there’s a second apparent shift upon ebony visage. smile falters & fades ; chocolate hues narrow slightly. it’s a response that should come as no surprise. the other’s gaze leaves her uneasy , feeling guilty for a crime she hasn’t even committed. perhaps she deserves everything that happened since danny’s homecoming — for abandoning her friend then & now. perhaps she should be perceived as GUILTY. ❛ no , no , that’s not… ❜
a sigh, words fizz out into the air , then lips purse ; thanks their childhood , she has grown accustomed to wearing a mask , whether that exists in the halls of green grove high or behind closed doors of home — more than ever since regina’s death. all she could hope for is that nobody is observant enough to peek through the cracks. ❛ if you want , we can grab a booth TOGETHER ? ❜
