     “ That much is very clear. Is there any reason            you’re in my bedroom this early? ”

    “ Is it not possible that I simply wanted to see you? “

     “ You are aware it’s considered impolite to        enter man’s room while he sleeps, yes?   ”

“Possibly. I’ve never been one to concern myself   with how I’m supposed to behave in a mans presence.”

     Her bottom lip trembled and tears welled in her eyes, hair       falling limply in front of her face as she looked up at Irene       through her lashes for a moment, before she blinked a few      times and grinned at her, “Works a treat, ‘specially with old       birds way older than you, usually gots grandkids… were ya       serious 'bout tha’ sandwich? Holmes don’t pay much…”

“Well old ladies do tend to be suckers for a good   sob story. And yes, I’m serious about the sandwich.   There’s a place just down the street that’s got great   food. All you have to do is promise to stop with the   inquisition.”

     "It would seem our lives have crossed in more than one way, ‘Irene’.“

“So it seems, Mr. Holmes. Such a funny world we live in.”

     "Good t'see you ain’t just a pretty face, Irene.“ Her hand is      still there, waiting, she’d take anything at this point, it wasn’t      like Holmes paid her or the others very much, not enough to      live off anyway. Dragon sighed, and her hand dropped a little,      “Come on, I only want a sandwich… what ‘appened to us girls      gotsta stick together?”

“If all you really want is a sandwich, then I’ll take you   to lunch. Money, however, you’ll have to earn from    me. I don’t give handouts no matter what face you try   and pull with me.”

And she wonders if learning this alone will make him more pliant. Ready to give in to all of her curiosities and whims. Or if now that he’s gotten this, he’ll have far more power to close himself off from her.
