Our latest trip, in October, took us back to Italy, this time exploring a whole new region - Apulia (Puglia) in the south of Italy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During our week long road trip we visited 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites in the area. This one was the first: Castel del Monte, located on a hill 540m above sea level, this octagonal structure is full of mysteries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The number 8 appears and reappears, again and again, having us wonder what was the connection? In September we spent a week living on a yacht, sailing and island hopping along the coast of Zadar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some of the times, when we didn’t sleep anchored in one of the bays, we’d come back to the Zadar Marina and spend the evenings wandering around the charming Zadar's old town. SInce 2017, Zadar’s fortified city walls and gates have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site called “Venetian Works of Defence between 15th and 17th centuries”. During our trip to the north of Germany in August we took a day trip to the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. The town is super charming, with a medieval center, narrow streets and many churches. We used to avoid travelling during the peak summer months because a lot of places tend to get hot and crowded. This year we decided to look for a place less busy and with a pleasant temperature in August and picked Hamburg - it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. Right after visiting Vall de Boí in June we continued our road trip further to the north of Spain, the province of Aragon and into the Pyrenees. The landscape is stunning around here, with mountains, valleys, lakes, and so much greenery. In June we continued exploring Catalonia. There is so much beauty in this region of Spain and we are so lucky to live in Barcelona and get to explore these places. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is Vall de Boí, a beautiful valley set in the picturesque mountain scenery of the Pyrenees. Here you will find 9 early Romanesque churches, like this one, built between the 11th and 12th centuries. They are exceptionally well preserved and were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.S. Everyone knows Ibiza as “the party island” but there is so much more to Ibiza than just DJs and clubbing. There are actually 57 beaches around the island, and the colour of the sea is crystal clear blue. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We took the ferry across from Mallorca, which took 4 hours, we chilled and suntanned on the deck and it dropped us off conveniently close to the center. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We spent a few days just driving around, exploring the next beach, and the next, and another one, eating good food and enjoying the sun. At the end of April and beginning of May we spent a week soaking up the spring atmosphere of the Balearic Islands. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We started off by flying from Barcelona to Mallorca (flights are actually cheaper than taking the ferry 😮, and of course way faster), then hopping over to Ibiza. At this time of the year the weather was perfect and the islands were not crowded at all. In March, after coming back from our Unesco trip in the north of Sweden, we decided to spend some time exploring beautiful Catalonia around our adopted home in Barcelona. Poblet Monastery is one of the charming places Catalonia has to offer, besides great weather and beautiful beaches. It can be visited as a day trip from Barcelona, it’s only about 1.5h drive away. The 12th century monastery was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1991, being one of the largest and most complete abbeys in the world.
