Ever since your breakup with Minhyuk almost three weeks ago, getting up each morning and putting yourself together has been a little harder. It takes an extra push, but you’ve been able to do it. Unfortunately, the world’s affairs do not stop when problems arise, so you must go on.
You’ve been told multiple times by your friends that you look sick. Of course, your sadness has definitely taken a tole on your appearance, but once again, you will not let it get in the way of your everyday life.
Today happens to be another school day you’re not looking forward to, but you drag yourself out of bed anyways and begin your morning routine. You try not to think about the break up as you get ready, but it’s hard not to when you haven’t taken down any of the pictures or given him his things back yet. You are still hopeful that the two of you can get back together, but you’re not so sure if that’s a possibility. Your break up with Minhyuk came out of nowhere. You guys were so happy until that night, when everything began going wrong. It was over before you could even realize what happened.
You went out with a group of friends to celebrate midterms being over and everything was going fine. That was until an argument broke out between you and Minhyuk. He had given you a promise ring the previous month, as it was your year anniversary. You wore it every single day. It was a reminder of his love and just how much you two meant to each other.
The night you all went to celebrate was no different. You wore the promise ring proudly. Eventually, people started leaving and it only left you, Minhyuk and his friends Bin and Dongmin.
“Babe, should we head out? You have a doctors appointment in the morning, don’t forget.” Your boyfriend asks as he finishes his drink.
You pout. “I don’t wanna leave yet. I’m having so much fun.”
Minhyuk shakes his head. “I vividly remember you telling me to make you leave if you started acting like this.” He smiles cutely at you.
Before you can speak again, Bin intervenes. “Don’t make my Y/N leave if she doesn’t want to.” He squints at Minhyuk.
You chuckle at Bin. “Hey, don’t give him a hard time.”
“He’s giving you a hard time. You don’t have to listen to him, you know that, right?” He adds.
You laugh again and look towards your boyfriend. He is not pleased with the current situation.
“I’m serious. If I was your boyfriend, I’d let you do whatever you wanted to do.” Bin speaks out. You’re shocked, but you figure he’s joking.
Minhyuk stands up, clearly irritated. “Y/N, lets go.”
“Bin, chill out.” Dongmin nudges his best friends side.
“I’m just being honest! Look, he doesn’t even say anything because he knows I’m better for Y/N.” Bin stands up suddenly, coming to your side. This time you don’t laugh, you stay silent because you’re unsure of what to say.
Minhyuk is beyond angry, but he stays calm. “Y/N, come on.” He walks over to you, grabbing your hand. You begin to follow him, but soon feel another hand grab your other arm. Bin pulls you back roughly, obviously under the influence.
“Bin, stop.” Dongmin tries to stop his friend, but Bin doesn’t budge.
Before anything else can happen, Minhyuk is pushing Bin. “Don’t touch her!” He raises his voice. Bin stumbles for a second but Dongmin is there to catch him.
“Did you just push me?” Bin questions in disbelief.
Minhyuk grabs your hand and moves in front of you before answering. “I did. If you keep running your mouth, I will gladly do more.” He says calmly.
“I’d like to see you try.” Bin steps up, once again. You look to your boyfriend to see him shaking his head, turning to leave while holding your hand. That is until he hears Bin’s words.
“Y/N, you know where I live, come over any time you want.”
Minhyuk spins around faster than you thought possible. “What did you just say?”
And that was how the fight with Bin and Minhyuk started, which got the four of you kicked out of the restaurant. Afterwards, Minhyuk just walked away, not saying anything to any one. You remember running after him, still surprised at what happened.
“Minhyuk, wait!” You shout, trying to catch up with him. When he doesn’t slow down or stop, or even glance at you, you grab his arm. He immediately brushes you off and continues walking.
“Minhyuk, what the hell?” You grab him once again.
“What, Y/N?” Your boyfriend stops and turns to you.
You’re shocked to say the least. “I mean, you were just in a fight with one of your closest friends.” You say to him. “I understand you’re upset but why are you taking it out on me?”
“Why am I taking it out on you?” Minhyuk repeats your question. “Maybe because you sat there while Bin was openly flirting with you and you didn’t say a word!”
“I-I thought he was joking! Why are you yelling at me?”
“Y/N. You let him make me look like I was a fool!” He shouts. “You always tell me that you don’t need me to take care of you, that you can defend both me and yourself, so I wanted to let you because I respected you. I guess you just don’t return the same amount of respect to me.” Minhyuk shrugs and begins to walk away again.
“Minhyuk!” You yell. “I’m sorry!”
“Maybe we shouldn’t see each other anymore.” Minhyuk says, leaving you on the side walk. Before you know it, tears are streaming down your face.
You’re snapped out of the memory when you hear a knock at your door. You open it to reveal your friend Jinwoo. He sends a smile your way. “You ready to go?” He asks. You nod and the two of you begin your way to your first class.
“So, how are you holding up?” Jinwoo asks you.
You smile. “I’m alright.”
“How are you, really?” He questions again.
You frown. “I miss him.” You admit to your friend. “I don’t want to do anything but call him and apologize and beg him to take me back. But I guess it’s been easier because I haven’t seen him. It’s lame, I know.”
Jinwoo shakes his head. “It’s not. We all know you guys should be together, even Bin.” At his name you roll your eyes. “I know you probably won’t believe this, but he feels really bad about the whole situation. You know he can’t take his alcohol.”
“Who can’t take their alcohol? I can.” Another friend, Myungjun, joins you and Jinwoo.
“Sure you can.” Jinwoo agrees, sarcastically. “But we were having a private conversation.” He informs the older.
“Oh, am I interrupting?” Myungjun asks.
“No! Not at all.” You tell him. “We were done talking, anyways.”
You continue on to your classes, departing from Jinwoo and Myungjun. It’s a rather quiet walk to your specific classroom, but you don’t mind it. You’re getting ready to enter the classroom when you feel your phone vibrate. You are secretly wishing it’s Minhyuk who’s calling you, but you soon see Bin’s name across the screen. You roll your eyes and decline the call. Again, before you can walk into the room, he calls again.
You answer, annoyed. “What?”
“Y/N, hey,” Bin says. “Can we talk?” He questions.
“I have to go to class.” You tell him.
“Please, Y/N. I really have to get this off of my chest.” He pleads.
You sigh, giving in. “Okay. But hurry up.”
As Bin apologizes profusely, you don’t notice a very familiar person walk into the lobby of the school.
Minhyuk was on his way to his class that starts half an hour after your first when he saw you. You’re on the phone and you seem highly stressed. He doesn’t evenrealize he’s stopped until his friend, Sanha, nudges him. “Why’d you st—oh.” Sanha’s eyes land on you. Your back is turned to them, you didn’t even notice anyone entered the lobby.
You’re listening to Bin. “I’m really sorry. To both you and Minhyuk. I’ll take full responsibility for your guys’ breakup.” He says.
You laugh. “Bin, the damage has already been done. I don’t even know why you’re apologizing.” You feel yourself getting louder while tearing up. “He hasn’t even tried to contact me. I thought about texting and calling him but then I thought, he was the one who broke up with me, he’ll just be annoyed if I bother him.” Minhyuk can hear the pain in your voice. He’s just as hurt as you are.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry. You don’t need to forgive me, but I do want you to know that I’m sincerely sorry.” Bin says.
“You should have thought about the cause and effect of this situation before you opened your mouth! The guy I genuinely love doesn’t want to be with me because I couldn’t tell you to stop.” You say, tears streaming down your face. “Why am I telling you this?”
You wipe your eyes and try to stop your tears. “We can’t change what happened that night.” You sniff. “Thanks for apologizing.” You say to him, not waiting for a reply before hanging up.
As soon as Minhyuk senses that your phone conversation is over, he walks over. At first he’s hesitant, but approaches you anyways. “Y/N.” You spin around, alarmed. When you see Minhyuk’s face, you immediately hug him. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I got too fired up. I never wanted us to break up.” He whispers as he hugs you tightly.
“I’m sorry too, Minhyuk. I shouldn’t have taken his actions and words as a joke.” You pull away and look at him in his eyes. It feels like it’s not real life, looking into his eyes. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.” Minhyuk grabs your hand and looks down at it. “You’re still wearing your ring?”
You nod and smile. “It means a lot to me.”
“You mean so much to me.” Minhyuk puts a hand on your cheek and leans in for a kiss. You close the gap and feels the sparks fly once again.
The moment is soon cut short when you hear clapping. You pull away quickly and turn to see Sanha recording and Jinwoo watching like a proud father.
“Finally, no more ice cream runs for me!” Jinwoo says, jokingly. “I’m pretty sure Y/N consumed more than six gallons of ice cream in the past three weeks.” Everyone chuckles before you and Minhyuk turn back to each other. You’re glad you guys finally worked everything out.
“I love you.” He says to you.
“I love you too.” You smile. “But maybe we should just go home instead of class today.”
Minhyuk nods. “We have a much needed movie marathon waiting for us.”
