"On August 2, 1900, North Carolina approved a constitutional amendment that required residents to pass a literacy test in order to register to vote. Under the provision, illiterate registrants with a relative who had voted in an election prior to the year 1867 were exempt from the requirement." Feels like a certain someone is trying  to bring those days back.

On August 1, 1944, white employees of the Philadelphia Transit Company (PTC) launched a strike to protest the company’s decision to promote eight Black workers to the position of trolley driver—a job previously reserved for white men. The Black men were promoted after President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Orders 8802 and 9346, which prohibited companies with government contracts from discriminating on the basis of race or religion and required companies to include a nondiscrimination clause in their contracts.

On July 27, 1967, a multi-day uprising of violent clashes between police and Black residents in Detroit ended. The conflict, which began on July 23, was the largest of the year and foreshadowed the violent unrest in cities across the nation the following year. At the conclusion of this conflict, dozens of people had been killed by law enforcement.

On July 21, 1913, 35 Black men at Oakley Farm, a segregated prison camp in Mississippi, burned to death when the neglected dormitory they were locked into at night caught fire.

July 22nd, 1587: Hundreds of English settlers arrive on Roanoke Island, off the coast of present-day North Carolina. Although a previous colony on the island had vanished, Sir Walter Raleigh hopes this second colony will flourish. But three years later, relief ships will find it completely deserted, and the Lost Colony of Roanoke will become a haunting mystery.

"On July 19, 1919, rumors began circulating among white residents of Washington, D.C., that a Black man had been accused of attempting to sexually assault a white woman. When news spread that police had released a Black suspect from custody, white men across the city began planning a violent rampage against the Black community."

On July 13, 1929, a white mob drove more than 200 Black residents out of North Platte, Nebraska. The mob targeted the entire Black community with violence after a Black man was accused of killing a local white police officer.

NO matter how much any of us love to watch soccer and the World cup. There are people that still have a problem with Black people and present every chance they can get at these games. Ain't that some shit? A joyous time for all with these shitheads sitting nearby. A Jamaican delegation is set to travel to the United Kingdom in September to formally present a petition to King Charles seeking legal guidance on Jamaica’s slavery reparations claim against Britain.... .....According to Grange, the petition will be presented on September 6, a date chosen because of its connection to the infamous Zong slave ship. The vessel departed West Africa for Jamaica on September 6, 1781, carrying 442 enslaved Africans. During the voyage, approximately 140 Africans were thrown overboard by the crew, who later sought to claim insurance for the loss of what they regarded as cargo.
