I admit - the recent 40K Balance Patch threw me off a bit. I am massively struggling with my GSC when it comes to actually WINNING games, and the last thing I needed was a nerf to the detachment I was currently playing, painting for and close to figuring it out. It did NOT help that my last game had a disastrous result, with me scoring exactly two times, ending 60:10 (we played without secondaries).
But the initial dismay was soon replaced by a more fundamental question - balance patches come and go. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And I realized - that IS the problem. Trying to build an army in a constantly changing environment SUCKS. Release day patches are a mark of ridicule for video games; and GW managed to bring those to the tabletop. And even THEN it can take years to get a workable Codex. How many iterations did we see on Cult Ambush?
So I needed a break. And finally opened my starter set of Bolt Action. And played it over the weekend with a friend. And, well…
I‘m not a huge WW2 buff, but the game… was great. Fast. Changing activations. Pinning mechanic. It reminded me about 40K 3rd edition in a way. So I decided to invest a bit more - American Defenders of the Bulge, reinforcements are incoming!
And my initial model are already halfway done; god I also love these sprues. Massive old GW vibes with the flexibility and spare parts that allow to build a variety of characters and units!
